hello all. i’ve known my manager does this quite often but i’m not sure what it means(i.redd.it)

Isnt this wage theft?
medinatroy [OP]77 points1y ago
just a wanted to use the top comment as a collective response and further info. i had worked for this store for a couple months and these were more frequent than they were now. i had left and came back and it’s been a about two months since. i have ALWAYS gotten these notifications from my sm and have acknowledged all of them cause when i had asked her the first time she gave me a dumb response that i forgot what it was. but i was gullible and believed it. i have only missed clock ins/outs only twice and because of that i have written in the book twice. if this is wage theft how can i prove it to anyone of authority to help me gain the money i have lost. thank you all so much for your responses
RaptorClaw2747 points1y ago
Have you disputed the edits in the system? I'd start there. Give the manager the opportunity to correct it. If they won't, call payroll and PRSC.
medinatroy [OP]26 points1y ago
i have disputed some in the past and that’s when she gave me a response that i felt like i had to trust her cause i didn’t know anything about this subject
RaptorClaw2739 points1y ago
Well then it seems like she's ok taking your time. This is unethical and illegal. PRSC should clear it up for you quickly, hopefully. I'm the meantime, dispute all of the ones you've seen. Keep track of the dates that have been changed so that payroll can fix it for you.
midgethepuff34 points1y ago
START TAKKNG PICTURES OF ALL YOUR CLOCK INS AND OUTS. Take physical proof so nobody can contest what you’re saying. One of my old coworkers had to do this. If you have the documentation there’s really nothing your SM will be able to do to dig themselves out of this hole.
verdeuce1 points1y ago
Contact your DM right away
rlogranite2 points1y ago
You prove by showing what happened. It appears you clocked out at 10 and your manager changed the punch to 952. Your manager stole 8 minutes from you.
ShannyES2 points1y ago
They can look at the system and see if it’s a trend. It’s not a difficult thing to do once it’s been flagged by a call. Idk why they don’t have someone looking into stores with high numbers of edited punches.
Jumbo_Jetta2 points1y ago
because it's a problem that saves them money, why would they proactively audit and then pay people the money that is rightfully theirs?
If there was a pattern of editing timesheets to give employees overtime, you bet that shit would get handled asap.
persona-2179 points1y ago
That looks like they are changing the time you clocked out. They can’t do that. They can recode things like moving coverage to non-cov or training, but they can’t pay you for less then the total hours you actually worked.
pinkshadedgirafe117 points1y ago
I would start taking photos of the screen when you clock out.
S0NofThunder17611 points1y ago
yeah I've been doing this since my manager has gone on and gave me 30s when l didn't take one, get paid for what you work
astrenixie82 points1y ago
If you clock in and out via the system, they should not be changing it. If you had to write in the book or the system did not record your punches, they are just clocking in and out for you. My first SM had to do this all the time when I was a new partner because the system didn't acknowledge my numbers yet.
In this specific case, it looks like they are cutting back the time you clocked out, which is suspicious. I would ask the reason behind each of these, because you have a right to know. If they are just adjusting your hours for BS reasons, there are numbers accessible to you in the store, on the website, and in the physical training materials where you can report things like this.
FirmSweet953 points1y ago
They’re stealing your hrs 😅
Spinelise47 points1y ago
Oh gosh I checked n I got over 100 of these from my past stores 😰
kxylynjs26 points1y ago
same here! i just found one where my old manager edited my start time from 5pm to 7pm 😒 i didnt know what it meant at the time but now im angry
Spinelise9 points1y ago
Yeah I didn't really know what they all meant and now I'm not even sure if it was all rightful or not. Guess I'll just try and not think about it 😭
kxylynjs8 points1y ago
i want to bring it up but my old manager stopped working in 2021 and coincidentally my hours haven’t been touched since
WesternEvery177911 points1y ago
Call ethics and compliance. They will investigate so that you can get reimbursed for the missing wages even if that manager doesn't work for Starbucks anymore
Spinelise2 points1y ago
I wouldn't know what to do tbh. It's only happened a couple times at my latest store but not nearly as much as the other ones I worked at, which is the sus part and it's also been a while. I'd just leave it be, and unless we even have any proof that they shouldn't have done it.....😬 just sucks all around
darkhippiie39 points1y ago
As others have said it looks like your manager has adjusted your time punches by taking hours(minutes) off your worked time.
If you actually worked what is on the original punch you need to hit the dispute button and have a conversation with your manager. If your manager ignores and does not automatically fix this take it to your DM if that doesn't work call payroll.
If you wrote in the punch communication log that you forgot to punch out to these times then your manager is adjusting to what you said you worked.
ANY punch edit your manager inputs onto your timecard should be documented in the punch communication log. If its not then they are stealing/commiting wage theft hours from you and making their labor look better. This manager can get into big trouble for this
Time worked = time paid.
- your friendly ASM
Scarymommy25 points1y ago
I dunno, but you just lost 22 minutes of pay if your original punches are correct.
coffeesparklez21 points1y ago
Um, if you are in the US and contact the department of labor then starbucks will be fined $10,000 for every theft event and your manager can be criminally prosecuted. This is a HUGE nono.
orangethrees33312 points1y ago
You should talk to your manager about it. It looks like they are manually changing your clock out times to stay within some legal time management things like: meal breaking (accident or not you are entitled to that time), or over time.
crzyshiba8 points1y ago
Yea click dispute if you do not agree with this.. our former SM did this a lot and eventually let go
stillwantthewhip7 points1y ago
This is wage theft. Please report it immediately to Partner Resources and to your District Manager. If you need help with what to say, DM me.
Sincerely, a Store Manager.
poulson1076 points1y ago
It means your manager is stealing money and time from you. It's illegal.
SunBusiness82915 points1y ago
You're paid in 15 minute increments. The clock reads 7 minutes before and 7 minutes after for the 15 minute time frame. Example 11a (10:53-11:07). She took your 11:00 clock out and moved it back 8 minutes to 10:52 and that took a 15 minute pay block away from you. An example of the 15 minute blocks for an hour are:
10:53-11:07(11a)/11:08-11:22 (11:15)/11:23-11:37 (11:30)/11:38-11:52(11:45)/11:53-12:07 (12:00) and on and on.
So by moving your time to 10:52, you were paid until 10:45.
b99__throwaway5 points1y ago
this varies by state, may not be the case in OPs situation. in california that is not the case and not allowed
rv49er5 points1y ago
This is likely wage theft. If you worked past your scheduled time, you need to be compensated for the time you can do other things. If you weren't doing anything but were not relived for the shift, you need to be compensated for the time you can do other things. Dispute the changes if you were not relieved of your duty. If they don't fix it, you need to contact a labor lawyer or department of labor depending on your state.
somewheredaydreaming5 points1y ago
I've always been under the impression the edited punch should be what it was changed too, i.e. by your manager. The original punch would be what was in the system, i.e. what you physically clocked in
ShannyES4 points1y ago
Nope. Report that. That’s highly illegal.
Sassycamo394 points1y ago
Start to send this to your DM. They can be fired for punch fraud. I had this problem with my New SM and she was almost fired but they gave her one more chance. She have never done it since.
user419843 points1y ago
don’t go to ur store manager about it, take it straight to the district manager and demand compensation since this is wage theft.
ShannyES3 points1y ago
Also - because I see the comment that ‘you were sitting the last five minutes of your shift’. The burden of proof would fall into the manager to prove you were not actively working and to justify changing your punch time. You punch time IS your proof. That’s why it’s highly important that you utilize the punch system and not the book as much as you can. (Not an issue here - just adding to the conversation).
Dispute any and all changes if they’re odd to you. Disputes *should* trigger *something* within Starbucks’ system to indicate an issue. Plus you’ll have a digital paper trail if you ever need it.
Electrical_Metal_1063 points1y ago
This is called payroll fraud. Your SM should be investigated and terminated.
lanastan4everlolz3 points1y ago
what app is this?
mylegalusername2 points1y ago
Starbucks Partner Hrs. - search it on https://partner.starbucks.com at work and print out the guide. You need to scan a QR code during installation.
overturned233 points1y ago
they’re editing your clock out time, aka committing wage theft. they probably got yelled at for high labor and this was their solution. this time they didn’t edit it too much so you aren’t losing a ton but still it’s not right. definitely report this
iiiimagery2 points1y ago
I literally just made a post abt this 🥲
spacespecterr1 points1y ago
came here to say i’ve seen a few baristas mention similar things on the sub recently. seems like a more widespread issue than anyone is willing to acknowledge.
Emergency--Yogurt1 points1y ago
I noticed this quite a bit on my app, but assumed maybe the system was flaky and wasn't recording punches accurately. We had bad wifi in our building, so I assumed everybody had so many amended punches.
iiiimagery1 points1y ago
Yup I totally agree. I realize this is a lot more common than I thought
medinatroy [OP]1 points1y ago
how are you going to try and get it resolved
iiiimagery1 points1y ago
You could check my post if you'd like, but I called ethics and compliance and made an anonymous report
deeciphered2 points1y ago
Means that you clocked in early and late and even if you were working they didn't want to pay you for that extra time so they adjusted it to not give you 6 extra minutes of pay.
WallyBBunny2 points1y ago
My boss tried to do that to me too. I screenshot the punches for lunches that were entered in that I didn’t take. So I brought it up at the end of our shift meeting and showed my SM the pictures. You can dispute them on the app too I believe. One of the other shifts at my store had to do the same because the end of her shift time was being ‘adjusted’. 😑
crimesandcutcreases2 points1y ago
Ooooof that’s not good. As others have said I would ask your manager to explain. If you feel like you will get blown off or are not given a good explanation go to your DM. They have access to payroll and can look at it themselves.
adorkablysporktastic2 points1y ago
You should dispute those and if your manager gives you some weird explanation ask to see documentation that backs up their reasoning. Play dumb act like you don't understand. You also need to report this, because as others have said, it's clearly wage theft.
JadedPerfection1 points1y ago
I had a manager that did this. It's fraud. Take pictures and notify your DM immediately. Also, let your co-workers know so they can keep track. You will be owed back pay.
The manager was fired and a full audit had to be done to determine how badly they had messed up our pay and the store books.

Edited for followup.
ijust_work_here_1 points1y ago
My manager does this to EVER shift worked. For every employee. He changes hours to what your scheduled to work, but what you actually worked. A bunch of people have talked to him and the DM and NOTHING has been done. Wonder why this is such a widespread issue…
Necessary_Low9391 points1y ago
From ur sm’s standpoint, it seems like they see u stop working at 10:52 but u didn’t clock out until 11, so they adjust it. If u did work, then they are stealing hrs from u
poorparadox1 points1y ago
It’s called a CRIME
k8mitchy1 points1y ago
I don’t work for Starbucks anymore but I totally saw my managers do this to me and was completely oblivious omg I might have missed out on some money (no way to know for sure though)
Avuneon1 points1y ago
Looks like your SM is shaving time off your paycheck. Take pictures/screen shots of every instance you can find to document this. Take this directly to HR. You deserve compensation for lost wages.
tumblrsalsa1 points1y ago
wtf??? this is wage theft and that’s illegal
rlogranite1 points1y ago
I've known managers that have been fired for editing punches.
