5+ hour shifts should get at least 2 ten minute breaks(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by turtlegoose2011
That's it. I don't get why 5.75 gets one ten minute break while a 6 hour gets two tens and a half. 15 minutes gets you a difference of 40 minutes of break.

after 5 we usually get 2….your store doesn’t do that?

No I've never had two tens without getting a half

My store only gives 1-10 for 5.75hours and below. :(

6 hour shifts get one ten and one half, then over 7 hours you get 2 tens and one half. But in regards to 15 minutes getting you an extra 30 min break, you’re also staying longer and making less money. You stay 15 minutes longer but you get that 30 min unpaid break so technically you’re staying longer and getting paid for 15 minutes less time. At 6 hours you’re only getting paid for 5.5 while at 5.75 you’re getting the full time paid since 10s are paid breaks. Just me personally but I’d rather get off sooner and make more money at the same time then getting paid less to stay longer.

same logic here. like…yes 5.75s are infuriating because 99.9% of the time i end up staying 15+ minutes over and working a full 6hours without a lunch.
i lowkey wish we got 2 tens for a 5.75 tho because my shifts have no idea how to properly space out a 10 for those shifts.

What, you don't like taking your only 10 minute break 1 hour into your shift?
I wish Starbucks would do more than the absolute legal minimum for breaks. Their home state requires a lunch at 5 hours of work, and breaks are legally required and should be spaced for every 2 hours. That feels pretty humane. 5.75 with a single ten is just begging for some Executive Porcelain Time.

I will always believe that 5.25 is the worst shift length in WA because it becomes 4.75 with a lunch. I just wanted to go home!

it's way more than is legally required in some states. in my state there's some places that don't give breaks at all
sheep_heavenly1 points1y ago
I mean my state is the same, despite legally required breaks they just... Aren't done. With zero repercussions.
BeardiesRule1127 points1y ago
I always give myself a 15 if I only have 1 break. We work too hard not to. My shifts agree.

This varies greatly by state, but my coworkers lament the same issue with 5.75s
BiochemistChef3 points1y ago
Here, you legally need a 10 and a 30 once you hit 5hrs. So they schedule 4.75 to only get a 10 🙃
