Double batch frappuchinos? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by livykiki
Hey guys! I was wondering if it's ok to double batch frappuchinos that have espresso shots in them (recipe-wise, disregarding the fact that we aren't technically supposed to, lol). Like, if it's super busy and someone ordered two venti caramel frappes with 2 shots in each, could you make those at the same time?
CTcoreyCT 204 points 1y ago
If I was taking a test and this question came up, in order to get the answer correct I’d have to say no. In real life because it’s stupid to not double batch, I do it all the time.
targetdollarsection 136 points 1y ago
i've never noticed a problem with double batching as long as the orders are the same, I say go for it especially if you're busy
aee78 68 points 1y ago
Is it standard, no. Can you and have I, absolutely. Though with 2 ventis, I usually hold the lid down, so it doesn't pop off.
Decapp_ 48 points 1y ago
I always stick a grande/venti dome lid ontop of the blender and it stays on!
AdamAce3 47 points 1y ago
Yeah you can fit 3 Ventis in the blender this way :)
olivinemultichrome 34 points 1y ago
Three ventis and a tall, actually! Four ventis and a grande if it’s a frap with whip at the bottom. Not that I’d ever do that or anything.
sublimeshivers 11 points 1y ago
Of course not! But handy to have those numbers in my back pocket so I can tell the new hires exactly what not to do!
sayowats 30 points 1y ago
Lid saving hack: upside down shaker lid fits there perfectly too you just can’t forget it and sling the blender off just for the shaker lid to do the dreaded CLACK CLACK CLACK on the floor leading to running the Hobart in tears
Responsible_Snow7109 4 points 1y ago
Lmao ive felt that dreaded feeling before when things fall to the floor lol i really felt this comment haha
sayowats 7 points 1y ago
Especially during peak and not having extra shaker lids or extra blender tops? Makes me want to take a ten just to have a menty b
grayandclouded 3 points 1y ago
i keep seeing this stuff about having to hold the lid down, can someone explain this? does my store have a different kind of blender? bc it completely closes so there’s no way for me to even touch the lid while it’s blending. not that it’s a problem, i’ve always batched 3 ventis no prob i’m just confused on how it works at y’all’s stores
Responsible_Snow7109 2 points 1y ago
Like u can put the lid from one of the shakers on the top part of the blender like when u pit the black lid on the blender, before u shut the handle to it, a shaker lid can be put on top of the blender lid. Then u shut the door/handle thing to it and it holds it in place at the top
aee78 1 points 1y ago
But then you need to sanitize the shaker lid because it came in contact with something you touched.
Responsible_Snow7109 1 points 1y ago
Idk i use a dome lid since i rarely have a need to double batch frappuccinos. I was just explaining to the other commenter what others were talking about when saying that they use shaker lids to hold it down.
aee78 1 points 1y ago
I don't shut the shield when I hold it down. Maybe it was 3 venti, not two. But our blenders are pretty old and the lids are slightly loose, so if the blender is too full, it can pop the top off.
killjoy0456 54 points 1y ago
they say not to bc it messes with the proportions but i measure each cup and then pour it in add whatever pumps it would take to do two or however many and put the corresponding scoops of ice per each size. and it always turns out fine as far as taste and consistency and everything. if it’s the same definitely don’t waste time doing each individually. imo
Mean-Grass8935 53 points 1y ago
I literally do this every chance I get
champshere 40 points 1y ago
If you’re on cold bar, no one gets to tell you what to do.
here_forthefun 16 points 1y ago
If it has espresso in it, I just do a bit less base but yes you could still batch them
cpv_91 15 points 1y ago
3 ventis, 4 grandes.. If they're the same why the hell not. Work smarter not harder. Don't forget the dome lid on top to hold your blender lid down.. Nobody wants a mess 😜
TheWallTheVeil 13 points 1y ago
If someone asks for a venti Java chip and a venti double chocolaty chip I make two as double chocolaty chip, pour one in a cup and then reblend the other with the pumps of Frap roast. Should I? No. Do I care? Definitely no.
ayakowantsmemes 2 points 1y ago
Was literally about to mention this, especially because people can't usually taste the difference between coffee and cream base
c-3le 11 points 1y ago
as long as it’s the same drink i always do it, especially if it’s a drive thru drink. wouldn’t waste more time doing each one individually and then get yelled at for the window times.
Kryrieonn 9 points 1y ago
I usually batch them and if they're all the same base drink. If it's add x-shot I just save wherever size worth in the pitcher, add the shot, blend on 3 to mix it in, and serve.
Hefty_Head 7 points 1y ago
I never double batch. I don’t wanna give Becky the impression that her 6 Frappuccino’s can be made quickly. One at a time and slow and steady. I don’t get paid for how fast I get a drink out.
mahimaggarwal 2 points 1y ago
that’s honestly brilliant
Brgnbo 6 points 1y ago
It there’s shots I won’t double batch. But if they’re the same drink without weird mods I think it’s fair game
bauhaustattoo 6 points 1y ago
I was told by my trainer that batching caramel Frappuccinos supposedly causes them to develop an alcohol-like taste. Haven’t tried it, but I’m not sure how that could be. You’re dividing the proportions the same way you would if you were making them separately because you use the same amount of ingredients. I don’t batch, but man, it makes no sense not to when we are getting 10-15 Frappuccino orders from regulars every weekend.
bauhaustattoo 4 points 1y ago
And I mean single orders containing 10 to 15 Frappuccinos. They order for their office.
new_direction_ 1 points 1y ago
Yeah, someone also told me when I was starting out that if you add base before ice it will have a completely different consistency. The frap lies get weird.
wafflehousedumpster 5 points 1y ago
I was literally trained to do so and I had no idea we weren't supposed to until I joined this sub
The_tired_barista 5 points 1y ago
So company answer, absolutely not. You should never batch anything together. I think the only exception are 2 tall fraps bc it equals a venti.

Now, non company answer. Absolutely. Just for some knowledge, 2 ventis and 3 grandes fit in a blender at once. Honestly it depends on who your sm is, who your SSVs are, with how much you can get away. While I don’t recommend it when you’re still a green bean and haven’t had that “aha” moment, if you can and have the people who don’t give af, do what you need too to get drinks out.
a_1900 4 points 1y ago
corporate answer: no

pov it’s nonstop busy and get hit with 10 fraps: yea
Callesandra 4 points 1y ago
Last summer, at my old store, I stood next to my SM while she was building the Fraps for me to blend and finish and she was absolutely multi-batching. At my current store if it even looks like someone is going to try it they get yelled at about it not being standard.
Mea-fae_Owl73 3 points 1y ago
I had a manager that made us taste test the difference between two venti CRF and a tall CRF as a coaching tool and yes there is a taste difference (slight) but I also same SM double batch during Happy Hour.
Minute-General-2090 2 points 1y ago
technically, no. But common sense? yes, if you get fraps that are the same, double batch them. I do this and so does everyone I work with, including my SM. even if someone ordered a tall caramel frap and a venti caramel frap, I double batch it. as long as the Fraps are the same, it's fine.
The_Septic_Shock 2 points 1y ago
Answer: no.

Real answer: YES!
I cool down the espresso in the milk and frap roast so it doesn't decimate the ice, makes a better frap
romanianhopscotch 2 points 1y ago
If corporate is concerned that batching frappacinos messes with their quality, idk why they haven’t spent time coming up with specific batching recipes. It’s just inefficient. But they want every drink to be ✨Hand crafted✨
user41984 1 points 1y ago
100% double batch whenever you can
Potet0mash 1 points 1y ago
I triple batch sometimes 💀
icedoatmilkchai 1 points 1y ago
i double batch at any opportunity i get. if its 2 ventis but one has a shot, i make them both without the shot, then pour the first one, toss the shot in and reblend. same with if i have two fraps but one is creme based. our store is so small behind the bar, and our cold bar is just opposite of DTO in a very narrow walkway, so shuffling around trying to get everything to make fraps can be really frustrating since we’re always all on top of each other, so any chance i get to push through the cold bar drinks i take
SpicyRamenQueen 1 points 1y ago
if there’s like two caramel fraps and one has an espresso shot i’ll still batch them, pour the standard caramel frap out, then reblend the other one with an espresso shot. if they both have an espresso shot, even better id just normal batch them.
blackboynxtdoor 1 points 1y ago
I do it all the time. We have a customer that regularly comes in, and gets two venti caramel ribbon crunch frappuccinos with extra caramel and four add shots in each. And we always double batch it. They can't tell the difference.
death2capitalism2 1 points 1y ago
DO IT. OFTEN. if Starbucks is expecting us to have drinks come out of our ass in 50 seconds or less, then you should be allowed to batch 3 venti caramel ribbons in one blender(if you use the shaker lid upside down on the top of the blender, it stops it from overflowing)🥰✊🏽
peters1jd 1 points 1y ago
I would think that you would have to still measure in the cups for the correct ratio of shots to base to milk but then yeah in theory it should work.
andyboy232 1 points 1y ago
I do that often 😅
crzyshiba 1 points 1y ago
Depends on your SM …
oatmilk05 1 points 1y ago
just put one of the dome lids on top of the blender lid so it presses against the plastic cover on the blender so the lid doesn’t fly off and you can p much blend anything
FearlessSentence9667 1 points 1y ago
i have someone that ordered two grande fraps with add shots every day and i do batch them, but officially, you’re not supposed to batch any fraps
