working at an airport starbucks (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by kittytwears
i started close to a month ago and boy do i cry every night before i have to go in. we constantly have rushes and lines that never get smaller. we rarely have moments of peace and when we do it’s us rushing to clean up and make things that we ran out of because of the rush. and on top of that, the people at the airport getting Starbucks are incredibly entitled and blame us for them being late to their flight 😀👍

If you got in a long line for Starbucks, and decided you were going to be late for your flight after ordering, you were ALREADY late for your flight. You know how long lines work, you know how boarding works, you know your flight time. No one to blame but yourself. And frankly, if I had to choose between a Starbucks drink and not missing my flight… Customers are absolutely ridiculous, I’m sorry.

exactly!! but they don’t understand and get confused on why they didn’t get their drink immediately after they ordered it & they’ll try to tell me what they ordered and to make it right now because they’re about to miss their flight like that’s my problem somehow 🤨

People hate coming to terms with themselves when they fuck up, so they find the most convenient target available🙄

I work at a cafe/mobile store. This one lady came into the store and ordered a grande hot caramel macchiato at the register. It was busy. Lots of people in the cafe. She wasnt even waiting 5 minutes and she goes "is my drink being worked on? I have somebody waiting in the car that im taking to the ER".....i tell her its busy and its being worked on. Then when it gets handed to her, she takes it over to the trash area where the old condiment bar used to be. Sets her cup dow. She takes the lid off and looks in the cup and says "theres no caramel drizzle in this" and i said "yes there is. It just sank to the bottom cuz the milk was still really hot and not settled yet so since it was put on right away, sometimes it sinks to the bottom when the milk is really hot"....then she has me add more.

Like she sounded as if she was lying about the person in her car waiting to be taken to the ER simply because she said that somebody was waiting in her car to be taken to the ER but then she stops at a Starbucks and sees all the people in the store and not to mention mobile orders on top of it and still decides to order her caramel macchiato and then on top of that complains about the caramel drizzle. If she is telling the truth then I feel really bad for the person in the car waiting to be taken to the ER because this person truly needs to get priorities straightened out. Like every single person was staring at her when she complained about waiting not even 5 mins and the fact that she even stopped there when theres someone in her car needing emergency medical attention

i honestly think they lied to push you guys to make their drink faster but that only made them look like a really bad person imo 🤨 i just don’t understand why people constantly question us as if we’re pulling a prank on them about how we made their drink lmao and people want to be prioritized when there’s a order of when the drinks are being made and they’ll have to wait for their stuff just like they waited in line… i don’t understand why they don’t realize that ppl order stuff too, not just them
Responsible_Snow7109 1 points 1y ago
exactly! I always say that.....they wana order at that store at that exact time so theres others that are doing just the same...even before that too so theirs have to get made first. Like just cuz you decided to stop at Starbucks while having somebody in need of emergency medical attention in your car (if thats even true) then dont put that burden on the baristas just cuz of ur poor time planning. I also do not understand why customers turn almost primal or start panicking after waiting anywhere under 5 mins. At least thats how they are at my store. They think that just cuz they placed their order at the register, their drink should be the next one out but no there's also mobile orders too. Like sometimes when somebody orders at the register and then they go wait at the handoff area, sometimes I'll be in the middle of a mobile order and then I'll put that but the rest of the mobile order drinks and then they will walk over to it and just stare at the cup and try to read it. Like you're not the only person ordering from the store at this exact moment

Sounds like my a$$hole ex husband i was puking In the car one time needing to go home and he stopped at the video store (20 years ago) and got a few movies and then went to Burger King for some food! We didn’t live in town at the time and he didn’t want to be “stuck” at home with me with no food to entertainment. Meanwhile I’m in the car waiting throwing up and trying not to crap my pants from diarrhea. The term is called narcissistic sociopath. Figured that out with therapy!!! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Lol that sounds rough. Nobody deserves to go thru that 😐. In my story tho, i think the lady was lying so she can get her drink faster. Cuz she didnt even mention it right away. She only mentioned it after waiting less than 5 minutes. Then wen i handed her the caramel macchiato, she had the nerves to complain about caramel drizzle even tho it was in there...just sank to the bottom. So i feel as if she was lying but even if she wasnt, still fucked up🤦‍♀️

Agree

im sorry for how they acted towards you btw 😵
Responsible_Snow7109 1 points 1y ago
Thanks lol yea like if their excuse of why they were in a hurry is true and they really did have someone in the car needing emergency medical attention, why would you put that burden on the Baristas. If it wasn't true, that was a real crappy lie or excuse to use cuz then it just makes them look like a horrible person to others in the store for stopping at Starbucks while taking that person to the ER. Lol like cmon then u get ur drink and complain about caramel drizzle while the person in ur car could be passed out by now? People amaze me

Customers are bad enough at a standalone Starbucks…I can’t even imagine how horrible they are in an airport

On a happier note though do u like the barista job as a whole? Like are u happy with the job? I start next week and am trying to figure out if this is going to be the right fit for me. :)

i feel like it’s hard for me to say bc i think working at an airport ruined the experience bc of how chaotic it is but i love my coworkers and i feel like that’s what a lot of ppl relate on while working at a Starbucks! as long as ur not working at an airport, you’ll probably love it
