I try to rotate every 1-2 hrs. Sooner if I see someone struggling or becoming burnt out on the position. I used to do every 30 mins but was given feedback that it felt like I was sending them everywhere every five mins.

when i'm the shift i try to rotate positions every \~2ish hours because time flies for some and drags for others, I find that 2 hours gives everyone a decent amount of time/experience on whatever position before swapping. i have noticed that a lot of shifts end up exiling some partners to DTO/window for 3+ hours sometimes and I try to encourage swapping people out. drive in particular is a really hard position because of the pressure on time & efficiency while still connecting with customers.
if you feel trapped at a certain position, try talking to your shift and ask them to put you somewhere else, if your shift doesn't care/doesn't listen or insists on putting you in one spot, try talking to your SM.

we rotate as ppl go on/come off of their breaks

As a shift, I base it on 3 things
1. Reading the room: how is everyone doing their routines, are they connecting with customers, or are they one Espresso shot from just becoming worn out. If any of those things aren't being done, then I'll swap
2. Always ask how partners are doing: ask if they want switch positions, get off the floor to do disruptives or stay where there at
3. legally it's every 30 minutes

my mid shift will leave all of us where we are our entire shift. needless to say, not a lot of people like her. other shifts who actually are good at their jobs rotate maybe 1 or 2 times a shift to whatever best fits our interests

This literally happens to me too oh my god. Like clearly the shifts have their favorites and let them rotate around and don’t care if they go over their break time, whereas I’m miserable at register or warming for two hours straight

I try to rotate everyone 2-3 hours, depending on my floor, breaks/ lunches I need to run. If it’s cold (I live where weather can cause issues) I’m more careful to rotate window in particular so that no one has to freeze their whole shift. As a barista I never liked to be dumped in one role the entire day so as a shift I try to never do that to my baristas. And if people don’t like the role they’re in, I am totally cool with people asking to be moved, just understand I can’t always give everyone the exact spot they want. I try my best to be fair.

One time I barred from my whole 1:30-9:30 shift 🥲 some managers are better than others at rotating

we never rotate positions… if you’re put on drive at the beginning of your shift you’ll be there until
the end of it
