grounds destroying cold brew tap (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Chub-boat
Has anyone else had any trouble with grounds making your cold brew and nitro taps simply *not work*? We had the maintenance guy come out and look at it only to tell us the kegs had grounds in them. Is this an issue with the new cold brew method, the filters we're using, someone at my store doing something wildly wrong when brewing/kegging cold brew, what?

Our tap wasn't working at first this morning, then our manager ran a cleaning cycle on it and it worked ok until we had to change kegs, at which point it died mid-peak right as 7 cold brews came through cafe/mobile bar, which pretty much set the tone for the rest of the day.

&If you're from my store reading this, hi! I love you guys 🥰 I came to Reddit for help.

I've never had grounds in the kegs at my store, I'd look into making sure your filters dont rip in the cold brew process. Do you have the Toddys or the new cold brew system?

We have the new one!

Are you tying the filters? The new ones dont need the filter to be tied and that could be causing unnecessary tension when its pulling the cold brew :)

our store recently switched over to the new cold brew system and we’ve been experiencing the same thing waaayy more often than when we used the totties. usually we have to go through this whole process of rising out the filter and releasing the air from the keg and then plugging in the hoses every which way. it’s annoying

I've also been flipping our filters inside out so they don't poke through the basket part

We kept an old toddy, so when a filter breaks (doesn't happen that often), we just filter the grounds out, before we make kegs.

Are you pouring the water into the top piece? If you're just pouring the water directly onto the grounds, the bags are more likely to break in my experience.
