Closing: How to par tills, count safe, and other $$ stuff?? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by SSDGM-cool-cat
Hey pals! I’m running my first closing shift this Sunday and have only watched someone do the money stuff at the end of the night ONCE like 2 weeks ago.

Could somebody give me some step-by-step instructions? 🥺🙏❤️

Grab an iPad, open the cash management system. Make sure your own log in.

Grab the cash counting machine, it will count the loos change and bills for you.
Grab a till, and make sure your in the neighborhood of:
- .50 cents in pennies [approx]
- $3 in nickels [approx]
- $6.50 in dimes [approx]
- $11 in quarters [apprx]
Most importantly your LOOSE coins should total $21, and your gonna drop the rest under the coins section.
You should have 2 rolls of each of the following: nickels, dimes, and quarters, so that your LOOSE change and ROLLED change = $55
- $25 in One dollar bills
- $120 in Five dollar bills
Viola, you have a till par'd to $200, and your gonna drop the rest of the bills under the cash section.

Back to the Cash Management App --> log in ---> Click "I am at Store XXX" ---> Click "Yes" ---> Click "Deposit", it's the second option from the top ---> Click "Pull Cash" ---> Click "Cash Pull by Till Assignment" ---> Click "Register X" according to what Till you grabbed/counted
USD CASH = Bills over according to instructions above
USD COINS = LOOSE coins according to instructions above

---> Click "Save" ---> Click "Yes"
1) Deposit not started? Time to grab a deposit bag and plug in the numbers to the computer, and Reciept Book
1a) Computer just needs the number on the bag
1b) The Deposit bag need your store number, the date, and at the end the amount of cash inside the bag
1c) The receipt book needs the date, your "Consignee" which is "Last Name Deposit" format, the amount of cash in the bag at the end of the night, and the Bag "
2) Deposit started? Double check the work above, then move on to the next Till

TILLS NOT HAVE ENOUGH COINS OR CASH???
1) Take what you need from the safe, and replace the exact amount of money you take for each Till with money from the SAME Till
1a) Example: 1Top needs: a quarter roll, 7 ones, and $20 in fives = Total $37. . . Take two $20 bills from 1Top and put it in the safe, and take from the safe: a quater roll. 10 ones, and 4 ficlve dollar bills. Put 3 One dollar bills in your Deposit Bag [make sure to imput that into the computer], and put the rest in the 1Top Till

ONCE ALL THE TILLS ARE AT PAR AND THE DEPOSIT BAG IS DONE, BUT NOT "FINALIZED"

Now, go back to the 1st Cash Management page, the first option should be "Count Safe" ---> Click "Close"
Count the safe, the numbers of each category will probably change, but the total amount should not.
If the total amount is different. You fucked up!

How many of each thing is a store preference. We NEVER drop lose change beyond like if it’s $120.15 we would drop the .15.

25 ones is way too little for us.

As long as it’s $200 and there isn’t anything bigger then a $5 left you will be fine.

my advice would be to count down your tills half way thru closing so you don’t have a ton of cash to count at close! it took me a good couple weeks to get the hang of managing tills but now it’s second nature. i also tend to drop 1 till per register at 9pm (we close at 10) just so again, less to count at close. you got this!!!
