I've only been working at Starbs for 2 months and today I'm learning to count and distribute tips, is this normal? My store has a pretty high turnover, so I'm told, but there's people who've been here much longer than me who still don't know how to do it. Is it a new thing that everyone learns now?

there is no company policy stating who has to do the tips generally its whoever wants to do the math and actually do the tips most dont they will happily allow you to if it means they dont have to count

Barista or ssv have to do tips. Managers and ASMs aren’t allowed to handle tip money since they don’t receive tips. Not everyone learns how to do it but if they think you’re smart enough to handle it and you often work on Tuesday (the day tips are counted) then they’ll want you to know how.

not everyone learns it. I just learned how to do it about 3 weeks ago. Only me and 2 others know how to do it but they can no longer work Tuesday’s to do them.

I started working for Sbux in 2015 (I’ve worked in 6 different stores) and as far as I know tips are only supposed to be done by a ssv

My store has baristas do it because they don't want to pay ssv pay for something a barista can do 🥲 all the supervisors CAN do tips, but it's sort of an only as a last resort sort of thing.

This is what our store does too- I do the tips and have for about a year and it just goes to whoever wants to do it basically. Some people don’t like counting or handling money

Same! In my first store I did tips as a shift. In my current store it’s only if nobody else can do it. Most of the times a barista is willing to learn on the fly if the regular person who does them has the day requested off. We the same person does it every week.

Not everyone learns to do tips, but any shift or barista can do them. Most stores have one or two people who do them all the time because they can be more efficient about it with practice and routine.

I’m a barista, and I do tips. I’m just glad they’re teaching you, as I was never taught. My manager just scheduled me to do them and now it’s just what I do
