SOS! Giant needs shirts! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Narwhal_Various
Hey everyone. I need help finding shortsleeved shirts that hold up well through lots of washes, are long enough to cover my torso while bending/stretching, comfortable yo wear in a hot and humid store, and meet dress code. I’m a woman but am totally comfortable wearing mens shirts. Has anyone found shirts they’d recommend?

You could probably just buy a pack of mens Hanes solid black t shirts. They tend to be kinda long and light weight cause they’re technically undershirts. Those would fit the dress code and are easy to pair with jeans. And you can get like 5 or 6 in a pack.

This was my go to outfit every single day when I worked at the Bux, and I'm at 6'3", 205 lbs. dude. They have tall sizes in those shirts too that you can order online but tbh it's almost definitely not necessary unless you're like 6'5"+.

I love the cheap shirts from the target mens section. They range from like $5-$9 I think and they have held up so well versus the womens tshirt section where everything is a v neck (not allowed) and thin/see through. Walmart has some cheap options as well but I find that they hold lint a lot more so they look dusty?

Are you certain v necks aren't allowed? I wear them sometimes.

They just have to end before the top of your apron. I have a few v necks that don’t show any cleavage and they’re fine

Thanks for the clarification, I was told they weren’t allowed and was offered no other clarification.

No problem. Some shifts/managers can be sticklers so just find it in the look book to back you up

Target has a brand of mens shirts Goodfellow at about 5 bucks a pop. Long enough I can bend over and change a keg without worry.

I second this. I bought a pack of black goodfellow tees and have been using them for 4 months for work, but had them much longer than that and still no tears or fraying. (2XL)

coffeegear has a lot of clothing to choose from that’s within dress code! i’ve bought so many clothes from them that have lasted me a really long time :)

Yup! Not that bad either, 10$ I think, and 17$ for a pullover. They’re reallyyyyy comfy

If you have a craft store near you they usually have plain shirts that are pretty comfortable and durable for about 5$! I managed to snag a few during a sale at michaels for abt 3$ each!

i was just at walmart the other day and they had lots of elbow length sleeve shirts, they had quite a few colors too! i’m not too sure if that’s what you mean but walmart has lots of cheap basics

i thrifted a bunch of men's short sleeve button ups to wear over my favorite high-neck tank tops from target. i usually tuck everything into my pants so it stays put lol. the button ups are usually pretty lightweight and u can take em off in the back for a minute if u need to cool off.

Walmart has really good shirts in the mens section. They last and are better quality than the womens section. They even have XS sizes (as a woman I appreciate this fit).

32 degree cold athletic tshirts. Absolutely phenomenal at keeping cool and well covered. Technically stretching fabric isn't allowed or whatever but I've literally never had anyone call me out on it even when a manager is explicitly reviewing everyone's outfits.

I buy the amazing basics (from Amazon obvs) dry fit t shirts and they are amazing

(Man here) I wore exclusively Dickies tops. They held up well after many washes, are comfortable, and make them in a ton of sizes. Solid colors, no logos, so they follow dress codes too.

In the summer, I wore a thin a-shirts (aka “wifebeaters”), in the winter long sleeve shirts, underneath.

In my day no denim was allowed, so most of us wore either dickies bottoms, I wore BDU bottoms. BDUs are tough, have lots of pockets, met dress code.

For shoes, I wore Doc Marten boots. I wouldn’t recommend them anymore though, the quality has gone down in my experience. I’d recommend a quality leather (or vegan leather if that’s your thing) boot with good ankle support and non-slip sole. You want something that will protect your feet from boiling water and will not slide on wet floors, especially if you’re closing.

i'm only 5'6 with a large bust so ymmv but the $15 or less men's polos at walmart have been my go-to. there was like this moisture wicking style one that i've not had tear up at all in my years there. i think it was george brand or something. i don't even like polos but they were the dress code when i started, so it's just been habit to keep buying them for work. (i'm a 2-3xl)
