You may have come at a quiet time and someone found a chance to write them :)
emogirlfren [OP]143 points1y ago

sumrandomnpcinyolife24 points1y ago
being an ex barista I can confirm we used to write puns n jokes on cups to kill time on the flip side it made the customers smile a little
deeciphered163 points1y ago
I normally try and write cute notes when I have a minute even If it's just "enjoy" or "have a great day!"
Sometimes I'll write "have an eggcellent day!" on the egg bites or ill handwrite the name on mobile orders even if there's a sticker already.
Mostly it's just when we're not super busy. Depends on the person. I like writing notes. A couple of my coworkers doodle. Others don't really do either.
emogirlfren [OP]39 points1y ago
its so sweet i hope you do them more often (when you have time obvi!!)
deeciphered15 points1y ago
Thank you! I hope they make people happy even if it only improves their day a little bit 😀
jjanuaryy12 points1y ago
I write have an eggcellent day on egg bites too! It makes me laugh even if the customer doesn’t notice lol
Mea-fae_Owl7359 points1y ago
I have a partner who does this when she has time, especially with regulars or people she sees needs a smile.
MacAndCheeseKitty48 points1y ago
Someone wrote Happy Birthday in cute bubble letters when I got the bday drink! So cute!
emogirlfren [OP]9 points1y ago
thats so cute!!
accountedthrowaway515 points1y ago
please tell me what you got for your matcha drink… it looks so smooth and perfect!!
also, i wish i had the time to write these cute little notes on cups but our customers are just so rude and we never have time 🥹 you must be sooo lovely and those baristas must have an awesome store environment
emogirlfren [OP]9 points1y ago
hehe i got whip-cream on the side and after drinking some i dumped the whip-cream and mixed it ! but other then that its just a regular matcha! :)

EliMinivan13 points1y ago

emogirlfren [OP]20 points1y ago

bouncyal8 points1y ago
we have cameras for the drive thru bahah so we can see your face a little bit although it’s usually super low quality
emogirlfren [OP]1 points1y ago
i am now embarrassed
capsule_of_anxiety13 points1y ago
I used to work at Starbucks and (ironically lol) my brother worked at the same store as me and he was told by a customer that my voice was hot lmao
leeblissy7 points1y ago
one of my coworkers does this all the time she loves doing little drawings and leaving nice notes 😊 I wouldn't think too much of it so long as it makes u smile!
cpv_916 points1y ago
I know people don't often feel comfortable getting messages so I only do it for my regulars but I know that they love it because they let me know it. I'm friends with a bunch of them, personally and on social media and they will either send me texts and/or post about how I made their mornings.
I love being able to make their day a little brighter, if I can. I work very busy peaks but I try really hard to sneak these in when I can. For those I don't know well, the fact that I work in a cafe, does allow me to at least smile at them and wish them a happy day as they run in for their mobiles and leave.
ittybittybakerkitty5 points1y ago
I often write on regulars cups. A lot of them know my handwriting now 😅
screddachedda3 points1y ago
My store did this before, just to cheer you up, don’t take it as something else until you’re proven otherwise.
sugartea633 points1y ago
My boss requires us to write things. It's a marketing thing.
nonogender5 points1y ago
thats just your boss then
sugartea631 points1y ago
As far as I'm aware, it's a requirement. I work in Starbucks in Switzerland and it's considered standard here to at least write the name nicely, if not a message.
nonogender1 points1y ago
interesting. in the US it's not required at all.
borrowedurmumsvcard2 points1y ago
I mean it makes sense. goofy writing= more posting on social media= free advertising
sugartea631 points1y ago
Yah, he encourages us to write nice sayings if we have time, or compliments even, or nicely written names at the very least. I always put a heart next to the name.
HydroPumped2 points1y ago
I like your Frs/86/Brz I recognize that interior anywhere, it matches mine
emogirlfren [OP]1 points1y ago
hehe thank you its my bf
Thts-atiny12 points1y ago
I work at a DT/Cafe store right off an interstate exit. I’ve been told explicitly we are not to write on the cups.
emogirlfren [OP]1 points1y ago
why not?
Thts-atiny13 points1y ago
We’re a drive through store and they say the two seconds it takes to write on the cups ruins our drive through times
Burn-your-account2 points1y ago
Some sweet girls at our local Starbucks write some nice personal stuff on my cup usually 👍
Lampinglamp2 points1y ago
yesss! before i started working for starbucks... i would frequent this one starbucks so much so that they started writing cute messages on it. then i started working for starbucks and when i'd be on front/warming, in my down time, i'd write positive messages or jokes (just depending on what i feel like) on the paper bags that would last a few days. so it could be targeted or it could be general.
if i were you, i'd pay attention to who writes it. like if it's everyone, don't think too much about it... but if it's one single particular barista every time and they're not doing that with everyone... maybe they want to be friends with you.
i also know tho like if i have a really nice customer, i will write positive messages on their cups for them (singling them out) but would i want to get to know them more than a customer level? no.
i would just monitor the situation for a while to see what's up.

When I had time I used to write the Wayne Gretzky/Michael Scott quote. 🤣
DieLawnUwU2 points1y ago
A regular at my store is a nurse at an urgent care section of a hospital and she flirts with me a lot so I’ll write messages on her cup to make her day. I’ll also do it to anyone if I have a moment to do it. And it’s usually puns
amassofworms2 points1y ago
We do this at my store when certain supervisors and a couple baristas get free time and energy to expend
CorCaroli112 points1y ago
yeah we used to do this at my store! we'd write nice little messages like "you look great today!". Just a small way of adding a little bit of positivity to a customer's day! I always liked doodling paw prints onto pup cups haha
edit: it makes me happy that customers appreciate our notes and doodles :)
Angryturtle00092 points1y ago
At my store, before peak we write on stickers and put them on cups when we have a second to. It makes our customers smile and us too! We love connecting, especially during the busiest time of the day!!
Minute-General-20902 points1y ago
I would say yes. only when we have time to chill and do stuff like this.
Ghost_girl_xx2 points1y ago
I did this whenever I was bored
MahNellie2 points1y ago
We do this at my store a lot.
lily-amber2 points1y ago
If I have time, I’ll write nice notes on peoples cups if they’re nice ☺️
krym32zamoon2 points1y ago
Are you a regular at that Starbucks? Feeling like they singled you out for that message imo. I only write on people's cups if I personally know them as regulars I already have a connect with.
emogirlfren [OP]3 points1y ago
i come sometimes to this specific star bucks so not sure if they maybe recognized my voice from one of those times? maybe idk tho
short_4_furnace2 points1y ago
Usually when it's less busy, I try to write little messages like this. Especially with the blank food bags we have now.

I like leaving cute messages for our kind regulars. My sbux is on a commuter heavy street so we see quite a few regulars. I just started working at mine about a week ago and already this sweet old lady has already learned my name so I make sure she gets a joke (usually from a laffy taffy) on her doppio macchiato
emogirlfren [OP]1 points1y ago
i love that the funny part of this story was that my bf was like “they do that for everyone🙄” and i was like “okay what does your message say?” and he looked and was like “oh” LMAO 😭😭
kurokurokii1 points1y ago
My stores will occasionally write on cups but it’s usually just “thank you”s
sero50741 points1y ago
When i worked for the siren i would write their names on the cups even if there was sticker, and i would try to write notes on all of them when it was slower days. It really increased customer satisfaction and brought more regulars because they were so pleased and happy someone took the time out of their day to recognize their existence. Even for karen, i would wrote a pleasantry on her Venti Mocha no mocha no mik, and it made her day when it was made how she wanted it along with a little note “have a blessed day Karen.” Kindness and positivies really do go long way.
Necessary_Low939-9 points1y ago
Heck no. U got a stalker 👀
Edit: from nyc so I don’t see this often. I see this done in japan only.
emogirlfren [OP]1 points1y ago
idk why so many dislikes but this comment made me laugh lol
Necessary_Low9392 points1y ago
I get downvoted even when I’m right. For example, a math problem lol
emogirlfren [OP]2 points1y ago
eh it happens to us all i definitely know how it is 🥲
Necessary_Low9392 points1y ago
