Sbux Disrespect? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Ok-Cauliflower-8156
I’ve worked at Starbucks for a few years now. I switched locations in November when I moved. I really enjoy the job, the customers (sometimes), and the benefits. But the store I switched into is not a positive environment. The staff is very disrespectful to me and often singles me out. I’d bring this to my SM’s attention but they do the same thing. Our DM is very distant and often just as rude. I’ve been pushed, yelled at, called names, had my sexuality at question and joked about. I can’t take it anymore. I’ve had friends who quit and marked these issues as their reason. I’m sure this doesn’t happen in many locations. I can’t switch locations because the other nearest one is 40 mins away. I’d hate to leave because I like the job itself. But I was just offered a higher paying and closer job. Should I quit?

if you are suffering here, and offered a higher paying job at a closer location, do you really have to ask whether you should quit or not lol. that kind of disrespect that you are receiving from your store won't stop unless all of the staff was switched out which i doubt will happen anytime soon.

i love working at sbux for the free coffee because i'm a huge coffee addict but if i were suffering and being picked on like you're saying you are i'd quit in a heart beat. no job is worth that kind of constant abuse every day no matter what.

All I can say is do what is best for your physical and mental health. You can always go back to Starbucks if you give notice and work your notice. I transferred to my current store at a time where it was the only store within 30 mins from where I lived. The environment wasn’t hostile but it wasn’t welcoming either. I didn’t go through anything close to what you went through. I stuck out a manger who was actively trying to get me fired and a DM who held me to a higher standard than other shifts. I felt I had to being the only way my family had insurance and I had already invested 10yrs with the company and I loved my job as a whole.

No matter what you do, please report your SM to ethics and compliance (and any partner who has harassed you). It’s not right what they have done to you

Yes. Yes you should.
