Cup fund question (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ValueAffectionate287
So back in the beginning of the year, i was out of work for nearly 8 weeks from various illnesses.

I had surgery back in January, with a two week recovery period. Two weeks after, I’m scheduled for 8 hours. Not a huge deal, kinda screwed me over financially right off the rip though. I work the two shifts and am then exposed to covid by my roommate.
I ended up being positive for covid (huge surprise there 🙄) and I let the SM know. I ended up being out for approximately 10 days and the next week, had time requested off from back in October for an event I couldn’t not go to and I didn’t get scheduled for anything that week. The next week I had only 8.5 hours again. This was also after picking up a shift. The next week, I picked up a shift early in the week and after working my first shift of the week/the picked up shift, I was admitted to the hospital for five days for an infection that required IV antibiotics. I called my boss as soon as I knew I wasn’t being released when they originally thought and I let him know that I had already found someone to cover my shifts.
I was released on Valentine’s Day. Aside from these two months, I bust ass (I was getting 25-30 hours a week) and will pick up shifts whenever people need. Even though I’m back at getting 25-30 hrs/week, I’m drowning in bills. I missed out on at least $2k that I needed for car payment, rent, etc. I’m just wondering if I’m even eligible for it because it’s been so long since the event happened.

You are struggling now. I believe unexpected medical expense count and from what I comprehend bills stacking up can qualify (especially rent). Check out the guidelines. Honestly it doesn’t hurt to apply, there’s no limit to applying just on receiving.

I think you should absolutely try. I got the cup fund I believe in February because of a family medical emergency and the process was actually fairly simple
