What task, station, or job do you wish you got paid extra for?
abandon_hopeless 243 points 1y ago
Sundays. Not because of any religious reason but because the Sunday customers are the worst.
canidieyet_ 53 points 1y ago
THEY REALLY ARE. sunday is the #1 reason i feel like quitting. i genuinely do not understand why our customers pick that day to be so awful to us
Lampinglamp 20 points 1y ago
i legit thought my store only had it bad on sundays... but i guess it's an actual thing.

like sunday from open to 5pm it's HELL.
tras529 18 points 1y ago
My first job ever was at a grocery store and we got paid 1.5x on Sundays. Damn do I miss that lol
maytrrs 9 points 1y ago

When someone calls out and I’m having to do multiple positions.

This is gonna be me during peak today…
szn2episode3 70 points 1y ago
Closing or clean play >:(
wok3less 80 points 1y ago
clean play should defo be a bonus
bisexualgirlboss 17 points 1y ago
same bc some of these mofos be messy
szn2episode3 9 points 1y ago
omg love your u/ bestie
bisexualgirlboss 4 points 1y ago
ahh thank you😭❤️
tras529 14 points 1y ago
As someone who closes and clean plays every week, I 100% agree with this
nezaket 60 points 1y ago
Fucking weekend peak, man
Bhaisaab86 51 points 1y ago
Just… the whole damn thing lol.

I do wish that the people who stood around and did bare minimum would get a pay decrease, with that money going to the people who are running around frantically doing everyone’s job for them.
Mea-fae_Owl73 4 points 1y ago
This. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
golden_gnome88 48 points 1y ago
Cleaning human waste from the restrooms. Every day, without fail, it is on the floors, the walls, eveywhere. People don't even try to make it to the bowl. I would never use that toilet they just don't make bleach strong enough.
Random-Brunette 27 points 1y ago
Aren't we meant to call a hazmat type service for poop? Enough calls from the same store would get expensive and the remedy would be people will need to sign out a key to use the bathroom.
canidieyet_ 26 points 1y ago
That’s what we’re supposed to do. I personally refuse to clean feces, urine or blood that is not my own. When I clean my bathroom (my brother uses it also), after tackling the toilet I HAVE to take a shower immediately after. I hate cleaning toilets.
golden_gnome88 11 points 1y ago
We did it once, our manager said never again because of the cost and that they would come in off the clock even and do it themselves. It's pretty much a customer support problem now.
Random-Brunette 23 points 1y ago
By all means let your bonus making SM do it then, because feces is nasty and can make you really sick. Seriously though, chronic issues or this are likely the same person/people doing it each time. Signing out a key could help.
golden_gnome88 6 points 1y ago
I am hoping my next store has a key or something, like it's just a lot to see before 7 am every day lmao.
dallizzlee 11 points 1y ago
Because of the cost? It’s not an out of pocket expense.

You better believe I’m calling our SM every damn time there’s a bathroom issue. Fuck that.
persona-2 -5 points 1y ago
It’s an expense out of the store. Your store has to stay profitable to stay open. Your Sm cares about that.
WellEO19 1 points 1y ago
Nah screw rhat. We don’t get paid enough to do that.
Caaboose 42 points 1y ago
I wish that, when partners call off and other partners are forced to suffer through the shift, it was time and a half. At least. It's absolutely silly to me that a company this big has no guidelines for store changes based on the number of partners available to work. I'm tired of busting my ass and drowning for 8 hours only to have to stay later than my scheduled out time because there aren't enough people to complete all the closing tasks.
Eastern_Effective_49 38 points 1y ago
I wish we got CC tips. Like after a customer orders their stupid drink, a prompt comes up for 20%, 25%, or a 30% gratuity. SBUX has way too many options to allow customers to modify the fuck out of their drink and not tip the barista for it

Edit; idk why I sound so hostile LMFAO
Slow_Cow3848 36 points 1y ago
If you go to virtually any other cafe (not Dunkin) they will turn their tablet around and you will be prompted to tip, with suggestions. We would make so much more in tips If we just switched to this system. I've even seen cafes that don't do this but have a special machine for a credit card to just give tips. Either way. But this company is too concerned with offending people to care if we get tipped for our hard work
felinefireghost 11 points 1y ago
Right!? The little teeny tiny eyebrow threading place I go to is even equipped to allow credit card tips. Lol Starbucks not doing it at this point is just because they don’t want to. There is no excuse they can come up with that will make sense. We definitely need to make this a bigger issue.
Eastern_Effective_49 2 points 1y ago
Exactly!
Toomanyboringpeople 3 points 1y ago
Starbucks is actually working on this right now! My SM said that almost all stores have the newer card readers and once everyone does then they’ll update it so customers can tip on it! (It should have def happened sooner, but at least we’re getting it 😂)
Downtown0317 31 points 1y ago
Cafe bar during peak, specifically with no cold bar
canidieyet_ 12 points 1y ago
i refuse to do cafe bar during peak even if we have a cold bar 😭 shit makes me want to drive off a bridge (genuinely)
Mr_SCPF 20 points 1y ago
Only ever being on bar my whole shift because I can sequence…
Gene_Forsaken 18 points 1y ago
drive thru .. we make < the cost of 3 grande drinks in an hour and we are handing out 200+ drinks in an hour and with 7 baristas on the floor the company is paying ~ $100 and making ~$1000
woooofuckinbuzzinwoo 8 points 1y ago
this!!!!! why are we not getting salary increases when we’re cranking out incredibly intricate/expensive drinks at light speed? at the very least credit card tipping would add an incentive. starbucks makes way too much money to not pay all baristas WAY more.
turtlegoose2011 16 points 1y ago
Scooping wet soggy inclusions out of clogged sinks with bare hands. Not that gloves help.
uwumoment 4 points 1y ago
why did they design the sinks to clog when a single inclusion falls in? i feel like they could have thought about it for a second
missycoy 16 points 1y ago
Like others have said, when other people call out. I'm tired of doing the work of 5 people with only 3
Random-Brunette 15 points 1y ago
An algorithm tells the powers that be how many partners should be on the floor based on sales. Any less than that, and the base hourly rate for the not scheduled or missing partner(s) should be split between who is there. Even if mobiles get turned off.
catarinavanilla 6 points 1y ago
I agree, the labor projection expenditure should be redirected to us picking up the slack, not as like a fun little bonus for the company
bisexualgirlboss 15 points 1y ago
Getting compensated when people call out/ NCNS, working Sundays (especially doubles bc I’ve done a few doubles on Sundays) and CLEAN PLAY.
Entire-Macaroon4490 11 points 1y ago
Double baring 🥲 (mobile + drive)
rainydase 11 points 1y ago
Doing the stupid drains
Key-Consideration190 10 points 1y ago
COLD BAR! at my store cold bar makes drinks for drive, mobile, and cafe. it’s insane
crescent_coop 6 points 1y ago
when i’m comboing dto and dtw and dt bar on a sunday 15 minutes after i should have left on a day i’m scheduled 15 minutes under six hours (so i don’t legally have to take a 30 🤪)
Vilali 6 points 1y ago
Anytime I have to do more than one planted position. Can I do it? Absolutely. Will I do it? Yes, it's my job. Is it fair? Not in the fucking slightest. Recently my ASM and I had to close the cafe and mobiles because it was just us. I got paid the same rate for doing a 7 to 8 person play with 1 other person.
uwumoment 6 points 1y ago
i feel like we should get pay raises frequently, i’ve been there for a year tomorrow and i get paid the same as the baristas who start today.

im a barista trainer, and yeah i get a bonus for training but it’s like $65. that’s basically nothing to me and it sucks to say it like that but it’s true. i work 25-30 hours each week and my paychecks are only like $400. idk i think im getting burnt out from starbucks though, might quit soon. they really need to learn how to keep workers
Lampinglamp 6 points 1y ago
cold bar.

esp during frap peak.
crzyshiba 5 points 1y ago
I would say clean play.. cause that makes me realize how out of shape I am lol 😂 I swear my whole body is sore haha
Swimming-Fee-2445 1 points 1y ago
Sorry to ask, but what is clean play? I’m still kind of new and haven’t heard this. Thanks
crzyshiba 2 points 1y ago
Clean play is done once a week where you stay late and literally clean everything .. the ice bins, the espresso machines.. coffee bean grinder etc
Swimming-Fee-2445 1 points 1y ago
Thanks!
official_koda_ 4 points 1y ago
Customer connections…why should anyone care about the stupid scores besides the manager. Imagine salespeople not getting commission. They would have no desire to put any attempt in making the sale.
dakokopuffs 4 points 1y ago
deep cleaning tasks. specifically mopping, cleaning the bathrooms, and cleaning the drains. as a closer, i do this daily yet no one in the morning ever has to. they get to be just a barista, yet i also have to be a custodian.
bluexplus 4 points 1y ago
TBH facing customers. Making the drinks and doing the little tasks was fun (no longer a partner) but dealing customers sucked the life out of everything. NGL i would have loved a situation where we just did our work and no one was able to yell at us.

Does anyone wonder if posts like these are corporate secretly trying to pry out union proposals without having to commit an unfair labor practice (soliciting grievances)?
mmgordon [OP] 1 points 1y ago
>Does anyone wonder if posts like these are corporate secretly trying to pry out union proposals without having to commit an unfair labor practice (soliciting grievances)?

Haha I promise - I'm not with corporate. I'm actually working on a startup company that would help workers get paid more for doing all this extra work. I hope I can help :)

Clean play
peters1jd 2 points 1y ago
Solo windowing during peak while still having to cover your own food. Not my fault that times are slow. I'm doing the work of 3 people.
Thts-atiny1 2 points 1y ago
Explaining to customers (when I’m on cafe/mobile bar) who see me running around making drinks, grabbing foam and tossing sprinkles that yes. They’re drink is in fact on the way and no the sticker didn’t get lost.
DecompressionIllness 2 points 1y ago
Shift leading. I get paid 50p extra than minimum wage to lead a shift and for the responsibilities that come with that, it's not worth it. I wouldn't have accepted the role but I needed the experience of a supervisory position because I didn't have it previously.
Special-Fee-3558 2 points 1y ago
Having to work on Sunday like Sunday should be time and a half just like Costco.
Leaflyeye 2 points 1y ago
Solo bar. Hands down. I hate doing drive-thru bar, cafe bar... along with mobile/delivery orders. It gets insane.

Any-Area8729 1 points 1y ago
Most of my shifts after 6:30 were running on a 2 or 3 floor so I'm usually soloing drive and making all drinks cafe mobile and drive. I want paid extra for those shifts
andijoi 1 points 1y ago
I should get a $100 bonus for every clean play

Sundays and drive thru. I can't, it makes my mental health take such a decline that I want to quit every time I'm scheduled a Sunday or put on drive
