You are supposed to get paid for scheduled shifts when your store closes for reasons outside of your control (ex. weather/emergencies, staffing, etc). I’ve had circumstances like this many many times and have been paid regardless of my ability to work at another store or at another time. Youre not expected to work outside of your availability or at other stores in this situation, but the option is there. Either way you should definitely be paid for the shift. Look up the policy on partner hub and continue the conversation with your manager showing them proof of the policy

Where would I find this on the partner hub?
bagels2243578 points1y ago
I dont know exactly but you can use the search bar to find the policy. Otherwise if you cant find it you should call partner resources and they will help you

I'm thinking Partner Resource Guide, or Store Operations Manual. Most likely the first one. It should be "catastrophe pay" but you should be able to CTRL + F and search keywords like "circumstance," "catastophe," or maybe "control" for it being beyond our control.
You may also just be able to run a search on the hub for "catastrophe pay," it may pull up a lot of Covid stuff, but look around!

Or contact PCC about it and ask them

How many people at your store got Covid? We don’t isolate for close contact anymore unless you have symptoms or test positive… only adding this because their information is outdated- Also, them not telling you the store was closed isn’t your fault and you should at least be paid for three hours for showing up— you should call/email your DM about this or call partner resources.
ughmonse [OP]9 points1y ago
I’m not sure exactly, as far as I know only one person tested positive

These text messages are to my temporary ASM. At the end she is offering our new SM’s phone number (which I already have) should I ask her for our DM’s number?
shelinator888 points1y ago
Yes PLEASE call pcc.
ughmonse [OP]7 points1y ago
I’ve posted about this a few times now I really just do not know what to do because there’s no way that this million dollar corporation cannot afford to pay us for our shifts
hotgirllifestyle5 points1y ago
they are absolutely supposed to pay you for shifts missed due to covid

So assuming you're in the US, it's illegal for the company to make you do work off the clock. I would get ahold of PCC and/or Business Ethics immediately. You also need to get the District Manager involved.
PCC also won't be happy to hear that critical information is being disclosed only over text, as according to the Partner Resources Guide, "texting is not a valid form of communication." Everything should have been disclosed to all employees via a phone call or in person (if in store).
This manager is an idiot and you have a very easy case here. They admitted to asking you to work and confirmed that you did come into the store to work.
ughmonse [OP]3 points1y ago
Can you clarify what you mean by making me work off the clock? What she is saying here is that she offered me extra tasks to be able to do to acquire more hours. Also yes I am located in the U.S.
StormTheParade3 points1y ago
Oh, I'm sorry! The way I understood it was that your store closed, but she asked you to come into the store anyway to do some things, but is refusing to pay you for it. Did you clock in for it, or was it a different kind of task?
sero50742 points1y ago
If you were clocked in, your employer is legally required to pay you in most states (US). They cannot make you work off the clock, and they must pay you for working clocked in, waiting to clock in, or waiting to clock out. This is in most states. Contact your dm and pcc and make sure you get paid.

I’ve made a few other post and I’ll clarify here. My store closed due to a covid exposure and I showed up to my scheduled opening shift because no one communicated with me that my store would be closed. No partner is being paid for their scheduled shifts during our 4 day closure. In this text message I’m asking my temporary ASM if I would be compensated for the shift I showed up for.
persona-25 points1y ago
So I was in an area affected by weather related closures last year. The answer officially by all the books is no your not getting paid. You can work your hours at the near by store or use up to 3 days of sick time to make up hours.
Since you showed up and weren’t informed ahead of time the store was closed your SM owes you 3 hours of CAT pay. If you arrive to a shift and are sent home early due to the store closing you are paid for 3 hours. This would count as that since you arrived for your shift without anyone telling you not to.

Plus, reply to them with things from the partner guide as well as your state laws (assuming you’re in US) that prove you must be paid after contacting your dm and pcc.
