i put in my 2 weeks last week, starbucks sucks to work at but looks really good on a resume (self.starbucksbaristas)

i got a job at a small business cafe with better pay, better tips, and WAY less insanity - my SM and I had to open both sat/sun by ourselves and he told me that my resignation was like the straw that broke the camel's back. he submitted his 2 weeks a few days after i gave him mine. I'm sure my isn't the only store running on fumes; we're all overworked and underpaid. if you like the job, I'm happy for you and i hope you keep enjoying it. if you don't like the job, the sooner you can get out the better. i absolutely love most of the team that i work with at my store, my issues are with the company at its core: overpriced for what's delivered, understaffed for what's demanded, and way too stressful for the amount we get paid.

I've always been interested in working at Starbucks, even when i was a teenager (for reference, I'm 25 now, started sbux when i was 24). i love being a barista, i love coffee, and i love the environment of a coffee shop. starbucks gave me the experience (i'm a shift) in the world of coffee & managing a cafe team and has definitely granted me the opportunity I've received at my new job. the opposite side of the coin is that those of us who work at Starbucks are expected to go above and beyond for very little pay (like MANY minimum/low wage workers are), and hardly any other reward.

if you're someone who's interested in getting a job at Starbucks, one of the biggest positives is that it's a pretty good thing to have on a resume. even if you aren't going to apply to similar jobs, in my experience I've had potential employers comment that starbucks is an impressive mark on my resume. people KNOW how hard it is to work here, so if you need something to boost your resume and you can handle the shitshow that is starbucks you know where to go.

tl;dr: Starbucks is a HARD place to work and has very little reward in itself, but future employers might like seeing it on a resume. do i recommend working here? no. do you want to beef up your resume and feel like you can handle the emotional/physical/mental tolls on you? do \~6 months and look elsewhere.
