Is my manager allowed to do this? (i.redd.it)

Non coverage just means you’re probably going to be doing something off the floor like putting the order away or some training
hystericalbirbe 44 points 1y ago
Might just be a store meeting- when we had ours, we closed the store early and closers had a little break before the meeting officially started
_circuts 2 points 1y ago
At 1pm tho?....then again my old district has stores closing at one so... Whos truly to say.... I just assume thats ana anomaly.
thatswackrhi 2 points 1y ago
Mine happened at 3pm for the Union meetings

Usually it’s a continuous shift unless it’s for a meeting. I have non coverage tapped into my shift often. The only times when it’s a split shift is for meetings or clean play.
dazedandconfusedhere 16 points 1y ago
If this is for a meeting then yes it’s allowed - if it’s to specifically give you a 7hr shift but skimp on breaks then no (personally for a meeting, I’d rather be scheduled like this and not have to miss 30mins of pay just to sit for a meeting, but not everyone feels that way)

I think I've seen this a couple times years ago. Basically all the SS's would always just ignore the 15 min gap and no one would bat an eye after the fact. Baristas would get all their breaks as normal, including a lunch in this case.

text ur manager and ask wats up. every time i have a weird shedule thats the first thing i do
BlueMuffins92 4 points 1y ago
This is not allowed. As per the partner resource manual any partner that works more than 6 hours is entitled to a 30min lunch and if you get called back before 30min it’s supposed to be a paid lunch. Your SM is doing this to cheat you out of your break and is unacceptable FYI. This is totally a fireable offense.
sheep_heavenly 4 points 1y ago
Unless you're getting a lunch in that first part, no.

And technically there needs to be 8 hours between shifts, maybe 10 idk, so yeah.
IntoxicatingDream 3 points 1y ago
iirc there's nothing in the policy manuals that explicitly prohibits it.

But I'm seeing more and more of this, and it's gross. I suspect this is going to be the new normal in a lot of places.

Sometimes if they have extra non coverage hours mangers will add some in so they can have extra coverage on the floor without using labor hours
Murder-of-Crows8 1 points 1y ago
Why don’t you simply ask what it’s about? Don’t assume people here know whats going on in your store - they don’t. Be your own advocate. Not everyone is out to screw you.
rudebii 1 points 1y ago
takes notes of every time they schedule you like this. It looks like wage theft, but maybe it isn't? If it is, you can go after them for it later.

E: the siren may also have to pay a fine too. IF they're doing this to a lot of partners, they'll eventually get the fed's attention, get sued, pay everyone and a fine. Starbucks has been in trouble for scheduling shenanigans a bunch of times. They treat labor law like "ask for forgiveness, not for permission" because they make more money doing it than it costs them when/if they get caught.

Edit: never mind- this just seems shady like trying to avoid giving a break

Store meeting? We have that for our shift supervisor meetings

Ask when your lunch is

Mission-Accident-917 1 points 1y ago
i recently separated two months ago i was told to be happy about 8.5 hours a week during hour cuts now two weeks ago they were able to give 50+ labor hours towards all of us individually district wide to sit down and watch a video about how starbucks has lost its original culture they wanna bring it back testing a portable cold foam blender (no promises still testing) how we need NFTs and more stocks and The union is bad we don’t need one howie isn’t anti union just anti union for starbucks it was very fucking weird and an hour long they called it training in my store i literally learned nothing i almost asked to pay my SM my hourly rate to go home and just not watch it lmao

Ex 281 SSV here; I would just clock the fuck out, to be completely honest. You’re not scheduled for that 15 minutes. 💁‍♂️
crzyshiba 1 points 1y ago
Yes that’s like my schedule today I opened out at 10:30am then go back for a 3 hr meeting
