Advice for a Supervisor at new store (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Wonderpumpkin_
Hi guys. To condense: I left the company after 5 years a year ago to focus on other endeavors. I spent about 6 months as a shift supervisor during that time but demoted myself because the store I worked at was a dumpster fire and never gave me adequate training.

I’ve just been rehired as a supervisor at a different store and I’m feeling a little nervous about it because it’s all new people and I haven’t “starbucks”ed in a year. I was comfortable being a supervisor at my home store because I knew everyone and had been there a long time. Going to this new store I want to put my best foot forward.

So I’m asking fellow baristas and shifts: what do you appreciate and want from a new supervisor? What advice and tips do you have that will make this process easiest for me? Thanks guys!

as someone who has worked with a shift supervisor who was a complete outside hire, just be kind to your baristas. the SSV i work with has trouble on bar and so will let themself struggle or quietly push it onto something else, and is also not very assertive when assigning tasks. I’m absolutely certain nobody is going to judge you for being rusty at bar or anything but just listen to your team and what they need! different stores alllll have different work cultures so as long as you’re willing to adjust and adapt while still doing your own tasks i think it’ll be fine :) good luck!
