Wearing a polo or any shirt with a collar.
GuySmileyIncognito78 points1y ago
Yup, also, how the hell did you get a mark from it in the front of your neck? Were you wearing it like a cape?
bluexplus23 points1y ago
^^ I was thinking maybe it’s an allergic reaction?
Suspicious_Wiener23 points1y ago
If you had a new apron on today, it might be. This happened to me when I forgot my apron and was given a new one. I think I was allergic to the dye or something because it only happened that one time, but it definitely hurt like a bitch. Also, try loosening the top part of your apron more, that might help too!
_hipster_dog_3 points1y ago
OMG same any time my arms rubbed against my new aprons I would get hives. It took a lot of washes for it to stop
rudebii9 points1y ago
It’s friction
TemplarSensei710 points1y ago
Quite a blessing now that I’ve seen this pic.
[deleted]1 points1y ago
this is the way. the only way.
BiochemistChef76 points1y ago
I tie it tighter on my waist, making that the standing point for the apron instead of my neck.looks a bit off but also makes it easier to tuck in scarves
benevolentchainsaw12 points1y ago
yeah I did this even tho it “wasn’t standard” or w/e only comfortable way for my neck to not die.
Necessary_Low9393 points1y ago
Same
FearlessSentence96671 points1y ago
i had a diff job where we had to tie our aprons like that bc we held things in the pockets, so now it feels wrong to not tie it like that, even if there’s nothing in my apron, if it’s too loose around my waist i’m gonna have to adjust it
getwreckeddd42 points1y ago
did u say ELEVEN hours?????
blahblahcapitalism7 points1y ago
im scheduled for a 10:00a-8:30p this coming sunday rip me 😭😭😭
getwreckeddd1 points1y ago

hollsberry3 points1y ago
I’ve had asshole managers schedule me two 11 shifts in a row because I was the only shift for two days.

They were designed for collared shirts
Unicorndreamer-2323 points1y ago
So my manager gets really bad skin burn sometimes and it turned out that her skin reacts sensitively to the chemical they use to wash the aprons. (We dont bring our aprons home, we put all the aprons and cloths in a bag and they come to collect it) Apparently when they get washed in a factory (i suppose) they use like chemical or detergent and if it does not get rinsed and washed properly it reacts to her skin and gives her a burn!
Electrical_Metal_10611 points1y ago
Just curious, where are you at in the world that you don’t wash your aprons? I’m wondering if I would prefer that. I am really sensitive to chemical detergent too.
sweetcookie888 points1y ago
In Canada we have an outside company wash and provide aprons
Unicorndreamer-232 points1y ago
This!
angryairheadaries13 points1y ago
personally i loosen the strap and make sure that i don’t keep my phone or keys in my apron pocket, that weight is all on your neck and that won’t help if you’re moving around like a crazy person
edit: i also agree with tying it tighter around your waist
lavanadium [OP]8 points1y ago
ohhhh that’s a good point i had a bunch of shit in my pockets 💀💀
angryairheadaries4 points1y ago
i always have way too much stuff in my pockets so i get it 💀
icelessTrash9 points1y ago
Mockneck tees

Collar 👍
rjflorezzz12248 points1y ago
apron wilding
cringeqween137 points1y ago
I wore polo shirts sometimes and would put the neck strap under the collar. Also try putting deodorant on spots that chafe easy. If you get chafed put baby powder on it to absorb any moisture (it helps sooth the pain while it heals)
femalehomosapien187 points1y ago
I make my neck straps looser and if it’s a new apron unfortunately it will do this. You can also see a piece of soft glue fabric on the under side.
CriticalSheep4 points1y ago
I would always tie it tightly around my waist so the weight is redistributed to the midline rather than hanging by the neck. I'd get crazy bad headaches from it otherwise.
Doc-Wulff4 points1y ago
Haven't worked at Starbucks yet but at Six flags if the apron was bothering me I would wear one of those gaiters that were also considered "masks" (I live in Texas, they probably would've accepted cardboard as a mask) and just fitted it over the extra cloth which is soft but doesn't move much
ShadowGrebacier4 points1y ago
Wear a polo and/or tie it tighter while loosening the neck strap.
Chaotic_Cat_Boi4 points1y ago
I just literally wear spiked collars ._. Like a weirdo
Demonic_Witch6663 points1y ago
I literally wear spiked chokers or different chokers, never had this issue with my appron
carmensandiego441 points1y ago
I have many skin tags
brianiwabuchi1 points1y ago
It’s the starch. New aprons do this to me too. A few washes will help. Also use fabric softener
hollsberry1 points1y ago
Get some cortisone cream for the rash!!!! I can’t keep much in my pockets and I loosen my neck loop to keep it from hurting. I try to tie the apron super tight around my rib cage, because it hurts my stomach if o tie it too tight around my stomach, but hurts my neck if I don’t tie it tight enough. Also, if your store allows it, I tie my apron in the front, or I loop the string around and tie it under the apron if I’m not allowed to. Just make sure to tie it in the back if a health inspector comes in so ur shift doesn’t get in trouble.
hollsberry1 points1y ago
It’s a violation on the heath audit to have partners tie the apron in the front, because they said the strings can get into food :( I tie my apron in the front but underneath instead of on top get around the rule

i tie my apron higher up on my waist and it helps with it not pulling down on my neck :)
sodakinq1 points1y ago
Don’t have anything in your pockets and loosen the straps
happyzeb1 points1y ago
i had a shift who rolled a clean rag around the neck part of the apron and she said it really helped with the chafing
menthol-drops1 points1y ago
Polo shirts, turtleneck shirts are def an option but you could also get some satin-type (slippy, soft) fabric and make a sleeve for the apron neck so it’s not causing so much friction. This is def a friction burn tho make sure you keep it clean and use aloe as needed
Significant-Gain-4871 points1y ago
I used to wear a lot of turtlenecks
Dismal_Beginning_1991 points1y ago
Baby powder although this has never happened to me
Aliciarox111891 points1y ago
Wash that a lot in DREFT or something similar for sensitive skin a few times .. that helped make mine better
mls913140 points1y ago
Dreft is actually terrible for sensitive skin. It is LOADED with frangrance
Aliciarox111892 points1y ago
They make a fragrance free one now ;) that's the one I use-- I usually use woolite anyway
The Dreft I mentioned is my backup
Illustrious-Air98341 points1y ago
It freakin suckssss! Just like everyone has said I wear collared shirts :)
KiwiBeginning41 points1y ago
i wear collared shirts specifically for this reason
dausy1 points1y ago
Oh girl. Can you remove the neck straps and just safety pin it in place to your shirt? (Nonstarbucks worker)
CriticalSheep3 points1y ago
If only. It can't be 'altered' in any way other than embroidering your name on it.
coooffieee0 points1y ago
dont work 11 hours 😭 good on you, but get some well deserved rest!
Imaginary-Fix-24690 points1y ago
I have worked for 10 hours straight at McDonalds before and I've never had that happen. 😳 It's never happened to me. It's probably because my shirt had a collar. Or maybe you have too many things in your apron, you're wearing it too tight, I don't know. Even when I wore promotional shirts and nothing else it never happened to me. Luckily at my current job I don't have to wear an apron. To me your skin looks like more of some type of reaction to something rather than a burn...
