Not gonna get my LOA approved before going back to work. Yay. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by snoodleboop
I’ve been sick about three and a half weeks now with the flu. Applied for a LOA at the end of last week to get some actual rest and not have to worry about getting shift coverage for about a week and a half. I’m supposed to go back next Thursday and while the rest of my shifts this week were taken off, I still have shifts all next week.
I’m not sure if it’s a problem on my end, because upon completion of the call with Sedgwick, I found out the person I spoke to put me down for short term disability, which is more trouble that it’s worth. Maybe towards the start of being sick, but I’m just doing symptom care and letting myself rest at this point. I’ve messaged my case worker twice earlier this week about changing my claim and have heard nothing.
I just want to rest without worrying about my job. Is there something more I can do at this point, or do I just need to be patient?

Not sure, but I’m going through the same thing. They put me down for medical since I said it was anxiety and depression and I needed time off instead of personal. I have seen my actual doctor for my depression in three years. Yet I have been going to a therapist but she doesn’t have a doctorate. So I’m fuckinf stuck.

Does your therapist office have a psychiatrist on staff? It'd be more money probably...

I’d have to wait 6 weeks for an appointment

Sedgwick throws short term disability at anything that moves. I was out for two months with work related injury until they told me I needed to go back to work, regardless of what the doctor said. Long story short, I had to go back to work so I could afford my medical that is now coming out of my own pocket. I said I didn’t want another LOA because I can’t afford to get treatment if I’m not working. Even if they pay me what small % I normally make.

Short term disability has been a thorn in my side for over a month! Putting me on LOA without my knowing so when I go into work I am randomly unable to clock in or use my numbers on anything. As a SSV I need to be able to use my numbers. I’ve called, emailed, called again, and they still keep trying to put me on a LOA. My boss has called and we both kept getting the ‘we assumed you wanted it’ answer.

I would make sure you report at return to work date so that they know you intend to go back to work. Don’t let them assume you want the LOA.
