my SM made a barista a shift even though she hasn’t been with us for a month and can’t even do anything other than drive or front and warming, despite all the other shift supervisors telling him that wasn’t a good idea. thank goodness I gave up on even trying to go for a shift position. How’s your day going?

In terms of career progression they need to be in position for 6 months
bisexualgirlboss [OP]15 points1y ago
literally all the shifts have told him that and he’s so ‘by the book’ 🤦🏻♀️

It’s the only one (barista to ssv) where it’s recommended, but not required.
Torirock1016 points1y ago
that’s so weird. how tf can she even help anyone if she doesn’t know anything
bisexualgirlboss [OP]9 points1y ago
That’s what I’m saying! And literally 1 or 2 other baristas have been trying to get a shift position and the SM told one barista that she couldn’t handle it even though she’s been with starbucks for 3 years. I have no issue with new people starting off at starbucks but being in charge or making decisions, that’s my issue

I’ve been there a month and while I picked up things quickly from past experience as a barista, I don’t know even a fraction of things to be a shift. I can do bar at least lol! But don’t ask me the date dots for anything other than a syrup. I would vomit if I was a shift.
bisexualgirlboss [OP]4 points1y ago
yeah and that’s pretty normal really, the fact that you’ve excelled a bit more. The thing is, she can’t do bar yet, she’s had bar training yes but she hasn’t had enough experience with first or second bar at my store. It’s bull shit that someone is getting paid more than me for shit they don’t even know how to do at barista level. It’s also super disrespectful to current shifts and the baristas that have been wanting a shift position for a while.
Broad-Flounder-49715 points1y ago
They won’t put me on bar for peak, but I’m usually on bar any other time. I think within another month I’ll be super fast at bar, but that doesn’t mean I have any knowledge of operations. Even at my old barista job, six months in and I finally felt comfortable enough to work on autopilot and that was a slow environment.
Are you going to ask her a bunch of questions? I would. Constantly. Every day. And if she asks you a question, say “idk you’re the shift 🤭”
bisexualgirlboss [OP]1 points1y ago
No but I be like that to shifts asking me shift questions. I don’t get paid to answer things more than a barista would know
Beautiful-Director3 points1y ago
Are you sure she made her a shift? Unless she’s an outside hire I think you have to be employed for 6 months first.
bisexualgirlboss [OP]2 points1y ago
no she’s hired at my store home store and she’s only been with starbucks for a month. Yeah my shift supervisors told my manager it’s against standard to promote someone that fast into their career
Beautiful-Director1 points1y ago
Did your SM already do that persons interview? Before you get promoted you have to interview for it with your SM and another stores SM
bisexualgirlboss [OP]1 points1y ago
I don’t think an interview was done, that’s my guess
