Insurance benefit hours (self.starbucksbaristas)

Since benefit hours stay over the first week in July, has anyone in previous years not had enough to reach the amount needed to keep benefits? What does Starbucks do? Is there any type of grace period or lee-way with it? Long story short, I work Tuesday-wed- and Thursdays. My availability is 7-5 each day. My daughter is in daycare those days so those are the only ones I can work. First two months of the year I was getting 22 hours average. Now, for the past few months I’ve gotten 11-15 hours a week, and I know it’s because of the labor stuff. We’ve had to hire so many new people so there are no hours to even pick up. I’ve asked, posted notes, etc.

What will Starbucks do if I don’t have enough hours? I know the hours went down too, to something like 450. I just looked at my paycheck and I had 318 this past one. 😔

June 26th is the last work day that counts towards benefits, so check your math based on the date on the paystub that told you you're at 318. You may be able to get close! If you have accumulated vacation time to tack a few hours onto each week, do it! You manager may also be willing to add sick time as well, you can ask.

If you do end up being kicked off benefits, there is two months of leeway, I think, and if I'm wrong about that, it's that there's three months before the benefits are canceled. In that case, check to see if you qualify for medicaid first, and if not, you'll have to look at the open marketplace, I'm afraid.

Unfortunately if you dont work enough hours, your insurance will be taken away. Have you tried to look into picking up shifts at nearby stores? They might have some extra hours for you.
