I hate the fact that Starbucks is actually good (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Eastern_Effective_49
It’s literally so addicting even after you quit. I’m sorry but those refreshers are insanely good
[deleted] 81 points 1y ago
I only drink Starbucks cause it free boss.
I’ll switch to instant coffee when I stop working here and my caffeine addiction will be just fine for it
AcadiaFresh563 13 points 1y ago
Hell ill spend even more on local cafes. The best ones near are even cheaper and better
canidieyet_ 5 points 1y ago
the coffee shops by me are +/- .10 for base drinks. i get the exact same drink for roughly the same price and it tastes astronomically better
darkwolf523 1 points 1y ago
Same
Chemical-Less 72 points 1y ago
These types of posts always make me chuckle bc i dislike most of the sbux exclusive drinks lol 😭 i literally can not understand why ppl who work here would ever spend money on it esp when they quit
canidieyet_ 10 points 1y ago
same 😭 literally everything we sell is so nasty. i like very few things anymore
beestockstuff 4 points 1y ago
You mean you don’t like burnt coffee beans?
goddessofwaterpolo 8 points 1y ago
The only thing I come to Sbux for since quitting is cold foam because my new job doesn’t have it (yet). After changing to a place with hand squeezed and properly flavored lemonade I’m not drinking a damn sbux refresher again LOL
star_pants 2 points 1y ago
Honestly same
neilgreenbreen 39 points 1y ago
i tried a caramel frapp for the first time since i started 7 months ago and was like, oh shit. That’s why i make 50 of these a day
Minimum_Salary_6319 9 points 1y ago
felt. that.
monicamac52 5 points 1y ago
me with pink drink today after working for a year
incognitoXburrito 3 points 1y ago
Make one and add a pump of mocha, 2 pumps toffee nut, and some Java chips. Top with whip and caramel/mocha drizzle. It’s such a treat 👌🏻
LegalizeCannibalism 3 points 1y ago
I must ask, how does it compare to McDonalds frappe? If you know lol
sh3nan1gans_ 24 points 1y ago
Yeah it is but the food ain’t it.
nicolelynnejones 7 points 1y ago
ain’t that the truth
sh3nan1gans_ 8 points 1y ago
The only food item I enjoy is the grilled cheese but that’s it
nicolelynnejones 7 points 1y ago
at this point the only things that don’t give me a tummy ache are butter croissants 😔 i used to be able to have egg bites but they were the texture of goo last time i made them and it ruined them for me
sh3nan1gans_ 14 points 1y ago
I feel you on the egg bites. I have a big texture issue, and the last time I had some I almost threw up cuz the texture was just different than normal 💀
bigghostb00ty 5 points 1y ago
I toast them to blackness. So good that way. Also one of the only things for someone who can’t eat wheat.
sam_strc 1 points 1y ago
protein bars 😋😋
monicamac52 1 points 1y ago

that new choccy creme cold brew made me see god
Jaded_Fun_7133 9 points 1y ago
This is my theory that sbux gives free drinks to us partners and then when we quit we’re life time customers 😂
aspiringgrandpa 5 points 1y ago
literally though. i never drank starbucks before i started working here but now i can hardly make it through my day without a matcha w/hazelnut 😭
jenniferdawn73 3 points 1y ago
Ha I was a customer for years before I got hired 🙈🤣 I applied cause of the benefits and I needed a part time job!

It’s by no means my favorite but I love the convenience and that I can get the “same” drink no matter where I go.

Mind you my normal non working drinks are iced americano black, iced green tea with peppermint, and iced passion tea so 🤷🏻‍♀️
ilholtstilin 9 points 1y ago
This is a valid sentiment and I’m not going to flex on how much I hate Starbucks in the comments

The only thing I love at sbux is the refreshers and almond croissant. The coffee is whatever, I can make my own coffee at home (with white coffee which Starbucks doesn’t sell). I end up watering down my pink dragon drink because it’s just too much sugar, but it is super good. It’s the only exclusive sbux thing I would miss if I didn’t work there.
MungotheSquirrel 2 points 1y ago
What is white coffee? I've never heard of it!
Broad-Flounder-4971 13 points 1y ago
It’s under roasted beans! Like, not even roasted at all, I think? It tastes nothing like coffee, has a very interesting nutty taste. Twice as much caffeine. And you don’t need to tamp the shots in the portafilter when pulling the shots; you can be careless as fuck and its still fine because there’s no crema or body. It’s just this yellow/clear liquid.

I miss drinking it 😭 but it is nice to have free drinks. My old coffee shop didn’t even give us a discount, so I had to steal my daily coffee 😂
MungotheSquirrel 5 points 1y ago
Oh interesting! I've literally never heard of this. I have some small local rostary beans that I consider to be a VERY light roast, but I've never had beans that are completely unroasted. Are they hard to grind? The super light roasts are such hard work in my manual burr grinder.
Broad-Flounder-4971 4 points 1y ago
We didn’t need them freshly ground, so we just ordered preground. It’s called Wired Willey’s white coffee (I made sure I knew so I could make it at home), though I think I recall my coworker mention they were indeed difficult to grind, but I could be misremembering that.

That sounds AMAZING

bestie it’s really really not 🤢
Key-Consideration190 6 points 1y ago
i go in on my days off for drinks😂
uwumoment 5 points 1y ago
the espresso is awful, the refreshers are overly sweet, the syrups are mainly chocolatey which i don’t like in coffee, the frappuccinos are straight sugar and no emphasis on coffee, the iced teas are pretty alright, sometimes made wrong and not steeped enough. the coffee tastes horribly burnt and watery, even if i try the “lighter roasts” i cannot pick up the fruit notes and still taste burnt. also i cannot emphasize how disgusting our cold brew is ughhhh
Roolita 2 points 1y ago
I agree on every point but one. How are they mainly chocolatey when we only have 2 chocolate syrups and like 12 non chocolate ones? Do they just have that kinda taste to you or do you mean that’s what you make the most?

Genuinely curious and I hope I don’t come off as rude!
uwumoment 2 points 1y ago
syrups that compliment the chocolate notes, like caramel, vanilla, toffee nut… it’s too heavy for my personal tastes bc i prefer stuff that compliments fruity notes like lavender or raspberry

bc whenever i think about coffee i think abt the plant and it’s flavors and not just how i can make it super sweet so i cant taste it
StormTheParade 4 points 1y ago
Because it's all jam-packed with sugar. Everything tastes just bad enough on its own that throwing in 40g of sugar is all that can improve it. If you're drinking a ton of sugar every day then just stop, you're gonna feel like shit and want more to make it better
SnooMacarons4754 3 points 1y ago
Ex partner here and I still love going to Starbucks. When I worked there I swore to myself that I would never spend another dime at Starbucks again on my own will. When I stopped working there, I had no desire to have anything from there as I had chuffed down most things and ate everything…
Fast forward a couple years and I was back at it again. I started working for a corporate office job and was making so much more money than my Starbucks job and needed a pick me up. I was finally able to walk into Starbucks as the customer and it’s such a great feeling. I had also forgotten what most drinks tasted like and everything hit as if it was brand new. I also knew how to order to my hearts content.

I will say I don’t ever order Frappuccino’s or any of the seasonal drinks because I know those are straight up trash lol but a nice tall roast with steamed soy and maybe a pump of white mocha if I’m feeling a little dangerous and a warmed croissant is everything !!!
sarahtilton_ 2 points 1y ago
That's how I feel. I was here every day before I started working here, and I thought being here more would burn me out. But the refeshers and the fact that I get to customize my drinks for free will never grow old
ChristPlays10000 2 points 1y ago
It's fine for what it is. Naturally since they are a giant corporation, they pour a ton of money into R&D to try to figure out what will appeal to the broadest customer base. But if you can find a local shop that roasts their own beans or uses beans from a good craft roaster, they will usually be way better than Starbucks, in my experience.
Brgnbo 2 points 1y ago
If I’m paying for coffee I go to the coffee bean lol
peepeepoopaccount 2 points 1y ago
For some reason I didn’t like most the drinks until I started working hear and finding the good combinations….. BS shaken expresso w SC CF hits different during my morning shifts 👌
emmerl 1 points 1y ago
I worked at the bux for a few years and never liked it. They over-roast their beans, which is a shame. I only ever go there now for an açaí refresher or for convenience when on the road. Damn I love the açaí refresher.
computernoobe 1 points 1y ago
I'm the same way. Fuck the burnt coffee but I really can't get over the pink drink and the cinnamon coffee cake. Rip me. This company ruined me
rednick953 1 points 1y ago
I’ve always enjoyed the iced tea. If I didn’t have Paneras drink pass I would be spending a lot on tea at my local Starbucks.
Calm_Preference6209 1 points 1y ago
Refreshers are straight up dog shit wdym
LilKaySigs 1 points 1y ago
Left Starbucks for Peets. I think their espresso and cold brew drinks are better but they can’t compare to starbucks refreshers
zambiers 1 points 1y ago
What I started doing is going back-and-forth between a smaller coffee shop, one of those hot coffee shops by gas stations, and Starbucks.
