i’m a shift but not (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by crazysockz
incredibly frustrating that all of my shifts at my store are outside hires so none of them know… pretty much anything. i’m stuck running the floor half the time because as a freaking 294 i am the most experienced person there. my shifts are getting paid the shift wages, and listening to someone who’s getting a barista wage. i’ve talked to my SM and he just says he working on getting everyone trained on every position AND shift positions. not to mention i’m sitting there barista training the shifts whilst also not being a certified trainer, even though i’ve asked multiple times.

i have no interest in being a shift btw. the siren needs to do some work here in PA to really figure this out.

i was in this position before being a shift- if you have no interest in being ssv, STOP doing shift stuff. if shift stuff doesn't get done or something that a shift is responsible for falls through the cracks, let that shift take the shit for it. you aren't getting paid enough as a barista to do the shift shit. i would constantly run the floor as my assigned shift would sit in the back not doing what they were supposed to be doing.

i know it's stressful in the moment to let things just play out without a shift, but you NEED to do it; no one deserves to be exploited. you don't get paid enough, do the work you're expected to do and nothing more. don't fall into the trap that I did, don't be a shift without shift pay. when I got promoted to shift I felt a bit better, the pay raise was substantial enough that I felt okay about my responsibilities. on a barista's pay? FUCK that noise.

make drinks, ring people up, run CS, or do DTO/window and nothing more. if the store is chaotic without your assistance as a non-shift shift, then it's chatoci and stressful. it is NOT on you to make up for your shifts' lack of responsibility.

Oh man that is not good. Ur a 294, a barista and yet ur running floors and doing shift things and getting paid as a barista. Thats wage theft like someone else stated. I kno u said u personally dont wana be a shift but u wana be a certified trainer instead but they cant have u training people and not paying u for it either. Are they paying u for that or no? But yea idk why they would make all the shifts at ur store outside hires. That is crazy.

And side note: I rarely ever hear anyone I'm here say that they are a barista in PA. It's mostly other states that I hear. I'm a barista and Eastern PA. What part of PA are you from?

I would just let everything become a dumpster fire. Like let it happen if they aren’t gonna pay you what they should.
