picking up shifts at other locations every week (self.starbucksbaristas)

so I just got hired recently, and the hiring manager said she could get me approximately 20 hours a week, but I need 40. She did say that I could pick up shifts at other locations, but I was wondering if that is reasonable to do consistently every week. There is a facebook page for people to post their shifts (with around 25ish locations in my area), so I’m not too worried about finding the shifts, but the whole situation of bouncing around different locations makes me a little nervous. I was hoping there was another barista in the same situation as mine that could give some insight!

As a veteran partner, I hate working at different stores because of the “culture shock” but maybe it won’t be so bad for a new partner.

You get mileage though so there’s that.

In my three years of Starbucks it’s incredibly rare to see a barista work full time unless the store is short staffed (at least in my area). There should be a paper posted in the back of house with reoccurring shifts from stores in your district. If you get your shifts from Facebook just let your manger know the time and date. It would be very helpful for you to get the number of the manager of the store you’re covering at just to cover all your bases (but I know this can be difficult to do). And ALWAYS make sure to write in the stores book that you took a shift there. I once forgot to and my manager almost didn’t give me the hours because she said I had no written “proof” of working the shift.

Ask your SM to borrow you to all nearby stores so you can see their shift marketplace.

Also we have multiple partners who always manage to get their 40 every week. Between picking up at our store and a couple near us it’s never as issue. The all have a couple stores they go to a few times a month if they need hours. Most of them could easily find OT if a SM would approve it.
