Try asking why you can’t. I’ve been there for a while know what’s I am doing and as fast as the higher years partners. I asked why I am not on bar they usually say like so and so has been here for 7 hours they asked to be on bar. It made sense they were tired from a long shift so requested it bc I had only been there for an hour or so. I asked when they left and got put on. Shifts have to run plays a certain way sometimes they forget to swap ppl out, sometimes ppl ask to be one bar (before you) and they just let them. Try talking to a shift and ask why you aren’t on bar and that you wanna be. If they still don’t let you with out giving you a valid reason let a sm know what’s going on and that you have tried to talk to them. If you weren’t looking for advice and just wanted to rant… I am sorry that really sucks I remember having those types of shifts (and still do) hope things get better for you!

That's really good insight! I didn't realize people could ask to be on bar so I just like, wait for the shift to tell me what to do. Also, I'm working at a different store because my home store is closed for renovations and I don't know the shift leads as well so I don't wanna step on anyone's toes ya know? I'm definitely gonna be more vocal about it. Thank you for the advice! I'm glad I'm not completely crazy!

That’s probably why. I pulled shifts at another store and was only on reg. Shifts do it based on what they’ve seen you are capable of. They just assume that you can’t rather then putting you on maybe seeing you can’t do it and having to take you off. I’ve seen that happening where someone says they want bar but can’t a shift who doesn’t know their capabilities regretting it cause now the partner is stressed but won’t say anything bc fear of not being on bar and the shift doesn’t want to make them feel like they were kicked off bc they can’t do it. Let the shifts know that you are confident on bar and would love sometime.

Same! I just posted basically the same issue like 5 minutes ago.

The SSV has to do what’s best for the team, especially during peak. Drive times and customer connection stores are collected and compared CONSTANTLY and the pressure is on your shift to deploy the floor to maximize both those things. I love watching my green beans get faster and more confidant on bar, but I do have to keep what’s best for the store and keep our customers time a priority during peak. This means that a newer partner is probably not going to be place on bar during that “peak” time. “Aces in their places”, ie whoever is fastest and most accurate should be on bar at that point. Now, this is not an excuse for anyone to be dumped into DTO or Front for 7-8 hours. Personally I try to rotate my floor every 2-3 hours, more frequently if their is inclement weather (I’m not leaving anyone to freeze in to window.) I would suggest expressing your desire to get bar practice, show that initiative. That could help remind your shift to give you time and opportunity to practice and get better at bar. Good luck to you!! I hope your shift is willing to listen and give you that bar time!!

I’m in the same position. When I work afternoons I get plenty of hours on bar. Even full shifts on bar without asking. But I’ve been on mornings for weeks now and they have me glued to drive through. I think it’s because I’m good at customer connections (even though I secretly hate small talk). The past few weeks I only get on bar for maybe 30 minutes at the end of my shift, if I ask. Yesterday I worked 7.5hrs with 7 hours on DTO/R, today I worked 5.5hrs with 4.5hrs exclusively on DTR. I’m gonna text my manager and ask if there’s a reason I’m tied to DTO/R, if when we’re on peak im not reliable enough to be on anything else and if that’s the case (which I know it isn’t) then I’m gonna change my availability to be only afternoons. The shifts on afternoon shifts are awesome, so I’d be fine to just work afternoons.

Yes omg that sounds so frustrating!!!! I started in march and I've gotten some good time on bar but it took forever, especially cuz i'm still in high school w/ limited schedule. You definitely deserve time on bar and NOT on register. When I started people kept saying it takes 6 months to get good at bar but idk how people got 6 months on bar. Kinda ranting too here. I believe you are capable and can get what you need. Good luck!

I'm like waaaaaaaaay to sensitive and impatient as well hahaha so I get all in my head and think like, oh they just think I suck at being a batista lol And I want to be super fast and good RIGHT NOW! Haha Thank you for the encouragement!!

That was me too! Then a few weeks later I was a trainer lol then POQ. Have some confidence and know that you are capable of doing it and others will see it!
