shift responsibilities and things to know?? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by bisexualgirlboss
my store has been going through major changes since September of last year, we’re currently on our 6th manager… since September and I’m also currently one of the longest partners (I hit my year mark last month). I thought about applying and being shift for a few months but eventually decided against it. Flash forward to within the past week or two, a shift of mine told me I should apply due to desperate need of shifts and all the shifts suggested and agreed I’d be a good shift. (For context, my manager promoted someone who has been with starbucks for a month and didn’t apply/ get interviewed for the position and is not getting proper training) To my knowledge, shifts do money stuff, the pastry pull, tips, etc (to my guess). What all goes into being a supervisor or what should a partner know before thinking about moving up to a shift. I also am thinking I probably wouldn’t get it bc I had a co worker that applied and has tried to get a shift position for a year but was refused so that’s why I’m also v hesitant. I’m still deciding but due to conditions, I’m actually debating applying. thanks in advance guys <3

You will also need to know how to do the store ordering and deployment.

For the ordering you will have to have a good idea of how much product your store goes through, and it also helps if your SM has pars posted for the products you’re ordering.

For deployment you will have to have a very good awareness about your Partners strengths and weaknesses, and the flow of your store regarding peak. You will have to place your Partners accordingly to run the smoothest shift.

If you feel like you’d be comfortable taking that on (as well as the other stuff you mentioned), then you’d probably be a great asset to your Shift team at your store :)

((As a side note, I personally think it’s very important for SSV’s to possess a level of patience and understanding. You will constantly be having to coach and enforce standards, so you will need solid knowledge of how things should be done on the floor. You will also have to be the example of coming in and working your butt off. Your team is going to look to you to see how they should be working.))
