are shift supervisors allowed to pull up and ask specifics about transactions? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by diotheleo
some friends of mine came through my store tonight so i bought their drinks for them because i get them discounted and wanted to do something nice for them. i have to make it clear i paid for the drinks with my own money. my shift lead tonight (who i've had a lot of problems with in the past lmao) came over demanding to know if i paid for their drinks after she pulled up the transaction on a different register and saw it was discounted. i told her yeah, i paid for the order, using my card on my starbucks account. thought that would be the end of it but nope, she goes back and loudly declares that it was paid for with a visa, not a starbucks card. and i was trying to make drinks and snapped that my visa is on my account.

is she allowed to do that? especially considering it was in front of all the other baristas on the floor, and in front of customers and they all heard the entire interaction

I mean i guess they can ask if they suspect that u were using your partner discount for your friends dishonestly , but it just sounds like they were being a dick about it- especially since you said she did it loudly so others could hear

which i get, some people are dishinest about it, but i've paid for drinks for these friends before in front of her, and it was never an issue before tonight

i mean yeah they can do that. you can go on the register and look at transactions too and techinallg you’re not supposed to use your discount for other people. not that i think it’s a big deal just putting it pot there

First off, your shift supervisor was being a dick.
But, (not trying to make excuses for them) if you were on the clock and working you’re not supposed to be ordering things. So even though you actually paid for it with your own money you were technically not supposed to be doing so while working. Now, that’s really being nit picky and honestly, if I were the shift supervisor I probably wouldn’t have even cared. But technically they were right. Now, their handling of the situation was obviously shameful. They shouldn’t just publicly call someone out like that.
