Shout out to all openers, I usually close but have been picking up opening shifts for more hours. Closers do have way more task to do but I honestly can’t stand getting up this early. It’s so draining and my body is not adjusting well. I’ve been getting less than 5 hours of sleep each night even with taking something to help me sleep. Even when I get off I feel tired for the rest of the day. I don’t know how I could ever get use to a schedule like this I definitely miss my closing shifts lol.

Go to bed at 11pm, wake up, regret not going to sleep earlier, repeat. You somehow adapt lol

I have been a full time opener and then a full time closer. I agree with everything you said. Here’s to hoping you get some GOOD sleep SOON!!🥱😴

I was an opener for over a year! You get used to it and become comfortable with going to bed around 7pm lol

as an opener with chronic insomnia… can’t relate 😭
CoffeeChesirecat10 points1y ago
Same, not and opener, but chronic insomnia. I worked as a baker with crazy hours for a few years before getting hired as a mid at Starbucks. I never got used to waking up so early. Now that I'm trying to be a shift, I'm opening up my availability and nervous about what that means for my sleeping habits.

Duuuuude, once 12:30/1am rolls around I seriously question if I should even bother with sleeping 🤣😩🤦🏻♀️ 4a-12:30p 5/6 days a week.
deeciphered8 points1y ago
God I feel. My friend hates me for it lol. 6:30 comes around and I'm like oh it's bedtime bye!

every time I open I end up going to be able at like 11:30 pm… my store opens at 5:30
nicolelynnejones1 points1y ago
i sleep like 12p-3:30a every night if i sleep at all so i feel you 😣
Turbulent_Proof15521 points1y ago

Been an opener for 10 years, in love with the early morning life. But if its not something you do regularly, hell yeah getting up at 3am is hard lol

I’m an opener and can confirm It’s exhausting 😭 plus I hate working peak 😡 I have zero energy when I get home, even if it’s a 4-6 hour shift
West_Ad85238 points1y ago
I took naps when I was first in after openers. 5 am start times, off by 10, back up by 1ish, bed by 9 or so.
MountainGoat9995 points1y ago
I've been opening for over a year now, and i have really bad insomnia. Usually if i can get a clean 6 hours of sleep (go to bed at 10, wake up at 4, leave house at 4:30) I'm good, but sometimes i just can't sleep and it is rough... Still way prefer it to closing tho.
pinkyogi5 points1y ago
the lack of sleep is not an issue for me since i am naturally a grandma, however morning shifts are definitely way harder than an afternoon shift speaking from experience of both
deeciphered4 points1y ago
I tend to be an opener/morning mid I like opening because I get off earlier and I still have most of my day but unfortunately like you said I'm normally tired the rest of the day and will probably take a nap when I get home on days I open.

As someone who has worked 3/4 jobs plus school over the last year, getting 5 and less hours of sleep has taken its toll on me. If you are able to get a full night’s sleep, it’s worth it to get into a routine sooner than later. I believe in you!
Broad-Flounder-49713 points1y ago
It’s my preferred shift because I have small kiddos. So I work and miss like half of their waking hours and then come home and hang out with them until we all go to bed together LOL
MatchingColors2 points1y ago
If I’m not in bed by 9, my morning misery lasts way longer than normal hahah
Garrickrelentless2 points1y ago
I feel the same way about the mids/closes I've been getting lately. Get used to any sleep schedule and you will experience sleep disruptions. (Awake every morning between 3:00 and 5:00 every day)
here_forthefun2 points1y ago
You get used to it as long as you go to bed early instead of at 11pm-12am like I do for close. I find opening easier than closing so much rather do that
bojadeeznutz2 points1y ago
Opened for about a year and now I only work mid day and closes. Something that helped me get into the schedule of opening was that after getting home I would take a shower then take an hour-2 hour long nap. Helped me so much and felt like I woke up to a new day. Only worked for my 4-8 or 4-10 shifts, 4-12:30 didn’t really work for that kind of a nap schedule.
