Did the benefit hour minimum get reduced? / How can I access weekly updates from a personal device? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by freeraisins
Hi, I have a couple questions related to the upcoming benefit hour audit on July 1st. For context, I'm behind on the minimum 520 hours (20 hours/week) to retain benefits due to the company-wide hour cuts this year. I've been taking as many shifts from coworkers and covering shifts in other stores to catch up, as I'm extremely anxious about it. I'm a trans partner, and I have an upcoming surgery that I'm relying entirely on our health plan to cover. If the benefits get pulled out from under me, I won't be able to get the surgery, and the burden of a $10,000 down payment will fall on me.

I've heard from my SM and some stray posts on /r/starbucks that one of our recent weekly updates included news that the minimum required benefit hours for the audit has been reduced from 520 to 450 (\~17 hours/week). This would make meeting the minimum in the next 5 weeks a lot more realistic for me, but I'm unable to find solid evidence of it. I couldn't find it in the weekly update we had in the store and I can't access past updates from home as I apparently need to be on a Starbucks computer to access them. I'm not working this weekend and the Benefits Center is closed, so I could use some help.

Does anyone have a definitive answer as to whether or not the minimum has been reduced, or any way for me to access the weekly updates from home?

They did temporarily change the amount of hours needed for the audit to 450, this info was emailed to me from the benefits center.

Thanks! Any chance you could screenshot the email for me? I didn't get one and I want to be absolutely sure.

I couldn’t post the screen shot so I just pasted the email, hope this works for you (:

Dear Partner,

Being able to provide benefits to our part-time partners is fundamental to who we are. As a Starbucks partner, your eligibility to receive benefits such as health coverage and the Starbucks College Achievement Plan is measured twice each year. This notice is to let you know that we have made the decision to temporarily reduce the required hours for the upcoming audit from 520 paid hours to 450 paid hours.

What do I need to know?

The next benefits eligibility audit will be on July 6, 2022
You must have at least 450 total paid hours on paychecks received during the measurement period (January 6, 2022 - July 5, 2022) to maintain eligibility
Your total hours will include Benefits (BEN) hours and Leave of Absence (LOA) hours, and are tracked on your pay statements
BEN hours include: regular paid time, catastrophe pay, self-isolation pay, vacation pay, sick pay, and training hours
Hours worked or recorded after the dates listed below will not count towards the July 6, 2022 audit, as they will not be paid until the next measurement period
For paid hours to be included in the July 6, 2022 audit…
Your deadline is June 19 if you are paid:

Bi-weekly in AK, AZ, CA, CO, ID, MT, NM, NV, OR, UT, WA, WY

Your deadline is June 26 if you are paid:
Bi-weekly in AL, AR, DC, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, LA, KS, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI, WV
