My store ran out of parchment paper Thursday evening. So Friday morning (into the early afternoon) we were made to cook everything directly on the oven tray 🙃🙃🙃(self.starbucksbaristas)

She (my temporary store manager) refused to entertain the idea of just waiting to sell food until we had paper because it would “just be a few hours” and “the oven gets hot enough it’s fine”
So that was stressful and gross and probably a huge violation.

Tell her next time to just run to the store and buy a box of parchment paper from the baking aisle!

She *eventually* did. But good Lord! It was disgusting to watch. Especially with how greasy and messy the Impossible breakfast sandwich is… and the burnt food bits everywhere… 🤢

Yeah I can't imagine. I mean after cooking each thing you would have to stand there and scrape off any burnt pieces of cheese or grease or whatever else because if it stays in there while cooling more stuff, it will cause the entire store to smell like something is burning lol

Something we have done before is just the warming bags as oven paper. It's not great, but they're designed to withstand heat

Yes! We do this until someone can buy parchment paper from the store. It works.

when this happens and we can’t make it to the grocery store, we’ll reuse the parchment paper until we can’t. we keep three if possible: one for food w meat, one for food w/o meat, and one for pastries so we can limit cross contamination the best we can. also so we don’t have grease and cheese melting directly onto the oven plate

I’ve been there. Egg bites cooked in the trays made the store smell like a wood fire ;-; luckily we got parchment paper quick

I just can’t fathom Starbucks actually being ok with us doing that. Allergy risks, cross contamination, religious preferences (pork), even just flavor issues. I don’t want to get in trouble for reporting it though

She probably wouldn’t get in trouble anyway because the outages/underordering. Her boss would probably say she “did the best with what she had” lol

honestly, i would just refuse to do this. barista training clearly states you’re allowed to refuse to do something that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

I told her to leave me on bar so I don’t have to do that because I’m uncomfortable with it. She didn’t take it especially seriously

ugh, that’s so frustrating! i’m so sorry you were treated like this. i’m glad you got to move though

That sounds like a violation but also sounds like something my store would do as well😗
