cold foam experiment (i.redd.it)

posts like this make me wonder why the cinnamon almond milk cold brew ever existed 🧍‍♀️ like yeah it tasted good but everyone knows it’s doesn’t actually foam ..
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 26 points 1y ago
so glad i missed that
herpaslurp 11 points 1y ago
i swear i've had the almond milk for that drink frothe OK before. the vanilla in it helped, i think. i had a barista who was able to get it semi consistently too
g_pvp_3 6 points 1y ago
maybe if you add a splash of heavy whipping cream. one of my coworkers told me (for the vsccf but i imagine it might work with other milks, just haven’t tried it yet) it helps thicken up the foam and won’t make it that ugly soupy consistency. i have yet to try it tho. i’ve also found that putting it on the 4 setting will help a lot. it just takes longer (25 seconds)
canidieyet_ 13 points 1y ago
i’m sure it does. but the idea of almond milk and heavy cream makes me gag lol
g_pvp_3 3 points 1y ago
yeah with other milks it might not be that great. but with regular (sweet cream) or nonfat i can see
Short_Independence82 5 points 1y ago
But then it wouldnt be dairy free 😭
RavenMcG 67 points 1y ago
We just let the customer know that it won't foam like milk.
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 28 points 1y ago
it really doesn’t :’) i was curious and bored
RavenMcG 19 points 1y ago
Yeah it is pretty soupy, but if they can't do dairy they don't mind.
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 15 points 1y ago
i feel like if i did some on 4 2-3 times it wouldn’t be so bad
turntmosfet 8 points 1y ago
Only cow milk products seem to benefit from running it through extra cycles. And even so, it really just makes the bubbles finer rather than frothing it up more. I don't think any of the alternative milks have strong enough surfactants to both keep the foam from breaking and keep the bubbles small.
iamnotabarbie 2 points 1y ago
I tried it it’s not much different from one time
theepi_pillodu 1 points 1y ago
I couldn't make the coconut one understand. How did it foam?

I see almond is better than the soy and oat.
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
in hindsight i should’ve added mocha to the ice water lol, the coconut didn’t work so well either, although it didn’t sink AS fast as the soy or oat, it still sank completely leaving just some bubbles on top
theepi_pillodu 1 points 1y ago
Got it, Thank You
CommitteeOfTheHole 2 points 1y ago
I have a dairy allergy, so I sometimes I’ll ask for cold foam made from soy milk as a Frappuccino topping to sub for the whipped cream. Maybe coconut milk would be a better milk to use for that? (Just putting this idea out there because I’ve never seen it mentioned but I think it’s pretty good)
diphenhydranautical 45 points 1y ago
i have a customer who gets almond milk foam every night, she’s a doll. i like to use oatmilk foam on my cold brew because the sweet cream foam makes my stomach hurt! it’s not the same texture but i prefer the texture of the oat foam tbh
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 15 points 1y ago
same! like even just the little bit of milk that’s in it hurts so bad, i blended all of these on 4 and they didn’t get to the texture i wanted
diphenhydranautical 5 points 1y ago
i always blend it on 4 but i usually do it twice. it doesn’t make much of a difference but it’s enough for me :’)
VirtualEntrepreneur8 6 points 1y ago
Sometimes if I’m having a particular hard time getting a foamy to do it’s foamy thing- I blend it on 3, and then 4. Don’t know why, but it gives it that foam pizazz.
diphenhydranautical 1 points 1y ago
i’ll try that next time, thanks! :D
saltandseasmoke 16 points 1y ago
I did some oat foam experimenting last shift - if you let it sit for a few minutes after getting it out of the blender, it separates, and what rises to the top is _great_ foam. Completely impractical for customers but if any partners wanna make non-dairy foam for themselves, it's quite nice. I did 100 mLs oat milk and two pumps of brown sugar on 4, then on 3. (We still have Oatly, if brand matters.)
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 6 points 1y ago
PERFECT YOURE MY HERO (idk why but we haven’t had oatly for months, it’s like dream brand?)
saltandseasmoke 7 points 1y ago
Dream came in on our last truck, I'm gonna enjoy our last bit of Oatly while I can. :(
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 3 points 1y ago
it’s not so bad! it took us all a while to get used to it but now i honestly don’t even remember what oatly tastes like </3
drinkliquidclocks 16 points 1y ago
The pumpkin cream cold brew with almond foam tastes great, it’s not as sweet but functions the same
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 3 points 1y ago
definitely keeping this in mind
EliMinivan 16 points 1y ago
Did this the other day, none of them worked. They all just blow a bunch of large bubbles and don't foam up.
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 5 points 1y ago
it all sank immediately too ):
nicolelynnejones 11 points 1y ago
the texture of sbux soy is unmatched
grayandclouded 6 points 1y ago
if the drink is a diff color from the foam tho it will make a nice ombre effect!! i’ve done a pink drink with matcha coconut foam and it makes a pastel ombre and it’s so pretty
tras529 3 points 1y ago
One partner told me if you combine soy and I wanna say almond? You can get kinda close. Forever trying to experiment until Starbucks finally gives me more vegan options 😭
DeadDear 3 points 1y ago
This reminds me of the time my co worker and I blind taste tested all the milks
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
that also sounds super fun!!
sh3nan1gans_ 3 points 1y ago
I had a lady get upset w me because her almond milk foam wasn’t foamy. 🤷‍♀️ there’s nothing I can possibly do
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
yeah i’d never recommend these to customers, or even admit that i’ve tried lol
sh3nan1gans_ 2 points 1y ago
People get it cuz it’s “healthier” but it’s not gonna be the same drink
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
i almost questioned if almond milk was really healthier but i’m sure everything is healthier than sweet cream
sh3nan1gans_ 1 points 1y ago
I question when people get sweet cream instead of milk In their lattes tbh 😭 all that heavy cream 😵‍💫
Kaywin 3 points 1y ago
One of my faves to make a keto friendly CF was to mix equal parts heavy cream with coconut milk and a squirt or two of SF vanilla syrup. Blend on the firm cold foam setting and enjoy on a cold brew or iced espresso! It was my favorite thing to whip up for myself before clocking off. I’d never ask a barista to make it for me now that I’m promoted to customer, though.
official_koda_ 3 points 1y ago
I remember having plenty of customers wanting almondmilk in replace of the sweet cream. I was like…I mean yeah we could do almondmilk with vanilla but it won’t remotely be the same
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
it’s still super liquidy /: i’m surprised that it didn’t sink as fast as the rest
amassofworms 3 points 1y ago
I’m confused is this on glasses of ice water? Just to clarify
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 4 points 1y ago
yes! it was just to experiment and i hate wasting more than i need to + didn’t plan on drinking any :)
pickled_goblin 2 points 1y ago
so, I’m not at a franchise store, we’re just a cafe that serves starbucks beverages. my boss didn’t want to pay the $100+ for the sweet foam blender so I got him to get us a handheld frother. it makes the oat milk froth so freaking good, I do 100 ml of oat milk and two pumps of vanilla. it tastes like melted vanilla ice cream. we also have one of those tiny pitchers that has a frothing circular whisk at the bottom of it with a cooling setting and that makes sweet foam really well too.
OstrichMundane 2 points 1y ago
also espresso shots make great foam lol i havent tried to do it with other coffees
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
that sounds really yummy 👀👀 do you add it to sweet cream or just on its own
OstrichMundane 2 points 1y ago
by its self. i dont like sweets. it is still very bitter but it works to be foamy.
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
i feel like that would just take iced macchiatos so much better
OstrichMundane 1 points 1y ago
just imagine how many people would do this if it was on tiktok 😭
OstrichMundane 2 points 1y ago
half soy and half oat with two scoops of vanilla bean foamed once on 4 and then like once or twice on 3 is the best combo to make plant foam
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
definitely trying this next
OstrichMundane 2 points 1y ago
ive worked with espresso in the foamers and it works well. tomorrow im going to try some more foaming agents.

my idea has been to make it “dryer” so the vanilla bean was for that reason and it tastes better.

i also feel like mocha bar powder could work 🤭

i will have to think of some stuff
madisonla 1 points 1y ago
Damn okay coconut 👀
SweetestPeaches96 1 points 1y ago
Thank you for this post!
Accomplished_Cap_834 -36 points 1y ago
Please delete this. None of these foam and it’s a waste of everyone’s time. Please don’t encourage this.
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 29 points 1y ago
no <3
Lampinglamp 14 points 1y ago
yo dude they’re just showing that it doesn’t work in case anyone else had the genius idea of trying it on their own. it’s been done. i personally thought about doing this experiment until i saw it now
Accomplished_Cap_834 -21 points 1y ago
Except it doesn’t show that. There’s nothing stating that except in the comments. There’s comments just below this one stating “I knewww it was possible” after seeing this.
dallizzlee 6 points 1y ago
Cinnamon almond foam was a menu item. We have a regular who still orders it
Ok_Investigator2607 -14 points 1y ago
yesterday I was on POS and a costumer asked for oat milk cold foam and my coworker (on bar) said we couldn’t do that. I knewww it was possible :|
Perfect-Leadership58 [OP] 8 points 1y ago
no not really, they all soaked into the ice water after just a few seconds, the almond milk was foamy enough but it’s probably best to double blend it
Ok_Investigator2607 3 points 1y ago
i knew it wouldn’t be super effective because someone asked for it before but it’s definitely better than the costumer complaining 😭
Ok_Investigator2607 0 points 1y ago
My coworker just told me we weren’t allowed
