submitted by ExpensiveSchedule229
Hey guys i am a new employee at Starbucks and its been alright so far (literally worked like 3 days) i am supposed to have my last day in training and then im just supposed to like be on my own. Im just not feeling very confident w drinks. Like i made some stuff but like how an I supposed to remember everything ? Im just feeling overwhelmed and anxious already. Any tips? When did you guys feel like you felt able to bar alone?

Training ends in a week. Learning ends when you leave the Bux.

Nothing wrong with asking for help so long as it's like "how much vanilla in a grande caramel macchiato?" Not "I forgot, can you make this for me?" It takes the whole damn store to raise a green bean into a peak-rush hero, and anyone with more time than you knows that.

Taking the time to make it right is faster than having to remake it.

Beg for bar time if you wanna learn bar. The only way to git gud is practicing until it's burned into your neuromuscular system so well that you can make standard drinks while literally falling asleep because it's still dark out and you had 3 hours of sleep.

You will fuck up. You will get yelled at by Karen because you fucked up - or did it perfectly and she's just that way. You will get behind. Sometimes someone will come bail you out. Sometimes you will just have to gut it out. And nothing of value will be lost in any of these situations.

**It's just coffee. Don't take bean water too Goddamn seriously. We have customers for that.**

Everything you said here is so perfect! Can you clone yourself and run all the stores?

Awwww thanks. While some of the wording may be original, it's all adapted from someone else, be that fellow baristas, jaded paramedics, tactical gurus, recovered addicts, or computer scientists.

I don't wanna run anything more than my own life right now. That's enough lol. And it was hard enough making one of me, I'm not gonna do it again.

Once again, you are showing what a beautiful soul you are with this answer. I really hope good things come your way-you clearly deserve the best in life!

Same to you, and thanks for giving me something super positive to start my day with!

Your right especially that last part! I should be less hard on myself. Thank you :)

ok so first off, you’re a green bean. no one expects you to have to all memorised by the third day. if you work a lot of shifts, give yourself up until the third month. if you’re less frequent in your shifts, 6 months - 1 year.

you’re definitely not going to be put on bar a lot as a green bean and that’s ok. but you just have to keep memorising how drinks are made during that time so that when it’s your time to shine, you’re good at what you do.

also, personally speaking, i went to starbucks knowing i’d be a bar person. not everyone is a bar person. some people really enjoy front/warming, some people really enjoy cs, some people really enjoy dtr and/or dto. you don’t have to be good in every single field. you can pick the field in which you want to be good at and ask your shift if you can be put more on that specific field (unless it’s bar. you have to show them you’re confident in your bar skills before they give you a lot more bar time. but you’ll get there with practice)

and also it really depends on the time you’re working. if you’re working during peak, it’s a bit harder to train green beans then esp on bar for example.

Trust me everyone feels the same way after the first week of training. Ask a lot of questions!!! It’s better to ask people while working than doing it all wrong. I had a SM tell me that you won’t be completely comfortable until about 6 months and that is completely true. Everyone makes mistakes, just keep asking what you don’t know!

No problem. Just glad I can help. Hope it goes well you got this. It takes a lot of practice and patience.
But you will do great.

And if No one's told today you are loved and appreciated in the world is a better place with you in.
