I need your advice. (self.starbucksbaristas)

Allow me to explain. I'm a returning partner with three years of experience. I know every drink on the menu like the back of my hand and have a strong work ethic. My previous store manager mentioned it frequently and can back me up.

~

Email from my New SM:

Hi ______,

The payrate pops up as 16.24. My DM comes back tomorrow. I will ask if it is possible to bump up but I can't make any promises.

~

I was getting paid $17.35 when I left, and I know there will be an increase in August, but I heard the cutoff date was May 2nd. I was rehired in late May, so I don't think I'd be eligible for the raise unless my three years of experience count?

According to Starbucks;

“2-5 year parters will be receiving an
additional 7% above the minimum or 5%
above their current pay, whichever is
higher.”

Let’s say I am eligible for a raise in August. Would I be eligible for a 7% or 5% raise?

$17.35 x 0.07 (7%) = $1.21 = $18.56

$17.35 x 0.05 (5%) = $0.86 = $18.21

If I do not qualify for a pay raise in August, I would like to negotiate my hourly pay rate to the rate at which I would have qualified in August had I not left. If I bring value and experience to the table, I don't think it's fair to be underpaid. They don’t need to spend on training, and compared to a new barista, it will be evident that I know everything.

I'm considering asking my prior store manager to please write me a letter of recommendation or speaking with my new district manager on my behalf to receive the pay increase.

The reason I’m being this detailed is to help better explain my thought process. I’m a broke college student that has a lot of bills to pay so receiving a fair hourly wage is important to me. It will suck if they pay me the same as a newbie when I’m more experienced.

Any advice is more than welcome. Thank you.

Your three years of experience do not count for the raises.

Per policy I believe they will need to retrain you

Unless the store you’re applying for is desperate or in high need for baristas, it’s unlikely they’ll hire you at above $18, or even much above the starting.

I understand your thought process and agree you’re worth more than starting, but it is unlikely because of the way Starbucks works sadly
