I’m a throw me on bar and let me dissociate for the next few hours type of guy to make the day go by
twirlylilchungis77 points1y ago
Strong agree. I’ve had times when there is a shift change and the new shift will say like “hey I know you’re supposed to be leaving just give me a few minutes” and I straight up didn’t even realize my shift was over
legoshis17 points1y ago
god this happens to me all the time, and everyone thinks i’m crazy for not counting down the seconds until i leave… but being thrown on bar with my ADHD means that when i finally look up 2 hours have already passed 😭 a blessing and a curse
[deleted]1 points1y ago
Lol is it an ADHD thing? I have it also, Ya dude I’ll just start zoning out thinking about whatever is on my brains agenda that day while my body does it’s thing. If it’s a chill shift ill listen to an audio book 😂

it does not make the time go faster but it’s the only thing keeping me from going actually insane

i use coffee brew cycles to measure my shift bc night crew only does 30 min brew cycles. coworkers either think im nuts or that its genius, no real in between but it helpe dme survive a tarbucms kiosk and now its helping me survive corporate hell
sammiipiie1 points1y ago
Omg I do the same thing!!

Sometimes I just stick a timer somewhere at my station and set it to count down to the end of my shift.
dirtychai021818 points1y ago
not necessarily the same as this but i keep track of everyone’s breaks in a little notebook so i don’t forget and crossing each one off keeps me sane knowing it means time is moving and i am leaving soon enough
becomingemily_5 points1y ago
I do this too! I’ve never met anyone else that does this!! Without it I get SO overwhelmed with all the stuff I have to get done
dirtychai02183 points1y ago
it’s one of the only things i need written out physically but it makes it so much easier!!

i just try not to think about it. i dont look at the clock for squat unless im dating somerhing. i dont wanna know the time shdjshshs
Responsible_Snow71093 points1y ago
I like this method lol cuz i find myself pullin out my phone to look at the time constantly and it drives me nuts sometimes wen i see that the time is going by slow. I like this tho. Back at my other job before Starbucks, i always kept track of the time in a weird way too like wen i used to work as a full time custom framer. If i had 2 hrs left in my shift, i would think "oh so thats 4 half hours or 1 hour and two 30s lol
nothereforit971 points1y ago
Sometimes I play a game where I don’t look at the clock until I make 100 drinks
Caffeineadick1 points1y ago
I google how many hours till ((set time I’m off)) during my breaks as well as it’s a shorter shift I just keep my phone timer on till my scheduled off time so I can peek at it and see how long I have left

30's?
PartlyCloudyKid16 points1y ago
Breaking the day up into 30 minute segments helps some brains visualize the day moving (and sometimes it feels like it moves faster). Personally, towards the end of my shifts, I'll mentally take notes like "okay, two hours left, that's only four 30's" and it can sound silly, but it keeps us sane 😂

half hours
EliMinivan1 points1y ago
What happens every half hour? I work at a licensed store so it's different for me.
oatmilk057 points1y ago
nothing specific, just a metric people use to count down to the end of their shift lol
NoEstate6533-1 points1y ago
I make a little loading map in 15 minute Intervals and shade it in as time passes

I would recommend focusing on your job instead of the time
