Advice for a new worker struggling? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Krissypoop
Just started working at Starbucks for around a week now, I'm currently in training and just really struggling with learning to make the drinks all whilst learning how to sequence. My co workers are really reassuring but I feel like I'm slipping underneath the pressure of it all. All the modifications overwhelm me and I feel like i have no confidence so im asking so many questions of reassure-ment would love some tips and tricks to help me become more confident on bar

It’s sucks at first. The recipes get easier with time.

I'm in my second month and I'm JUST starting to get the hang of cafe bar. Still slow for sure but studying the recipes during your scheduled shift helps! And asking questions or on your down time in POS, you skim through the drinks and look at the recipes/mod settings.

I encourage you to ask questions and not be afraid. That was and continues to be an issue for me because I feel like a burden (you're not, though).

I recently found this and it's proven to be fruitful for me. Maybe it will help you, too:

I didn’t become confident on bar for 2 months! Don’t feel too down about it! I used the Starbucks app to look at each drinks and # of shots/ pumps and other add ins to learn the basics also using quizlet flash cards helped too!

Dont be afraid to ask questions until you are confident, I did that for almost every drink when I started! I question new baristas if they dont ask me questions on bar lol

Just keep on asking questions, we (tenured baristas) would much rather you ask and get it right than to assume and make the drink wrong.

Dont beat yourself up for it! You've only been there for a week and nobody can expect to get sequencing and drink recipes down in a week. Trust me you are going to get so much more better of it with time and practice and eventually it'll become muscle memory🙂

Edit: misspell fixed
