it would be a glorious day when starbucks starts charging for light ice (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by FTorrez81
come on, starbucks. even 25 cents. i know you’ve thought about it. do it.

edit: on second thought, you guys are right lol i was just annoyed at all the light/no ice drinks today
coffee-and-chillll 82 points 1y ago
I totally get different modifications being annoying, but light ice doesn’t bother me. It doesn’t add any more work for me to do, and I understand it. I’ve gotten drinks from Sbux many of times that were loaded with ice, so I don’t get annoyed anymore when someone orders light ice. I do understand possibly charging for “no ice” drinks though, as that uses up a lot more milk/ingredients and is a bit excessive.

Overall, as long customers aren’t rude or ridiculous, I understand them wanting a drink that isn’t loaded with ice as it isn’t cheap.
nicolelynnejones 24 points 1y ago
it doesn’t bother me either. i’d say the only thing that bugs me is how 99.9% of the SARs we make are lite ice and we go through it 50% faster. a pitcher lasts like 5 minutes
coffee-and-chillll 15 points 1y ago
Yessss. Ever since we changed from using refreshers straight from the box to putting it in pitchers I’ve felt the same way, the pitchers are just another unnecessary step for us, but I get people wanting light ice. Idk many people who would want their drink loaded with ice.

A few weeks ago I got a tall iced drink and it was filled to the very top with ice…I’m not one to complain as a fellow partner and it’s my fault I didn’t order light ice, but I will admit I was wishing my drink lasted more than a few sips lol and it made me realize why customers order light ice
nicolelynnejones 8 points 1y ago
the “extra ice” crowd is very small. some people have sensory issues with the liquid in their cup sloshing around or their drink not being ice cold (i used to be like that and would order my drinks with extra ice, i hated the sloshing) but it’s really a waste of money.
hystericalbirbe 7 points 1y ago
I live in Arizona, and (in the 110+ degree summers) we actually get a lot of extra ice orders. Mostly they ask for a size larger cup for the extra ice. I agree with you regarding how it sorta ruins the drink but it melts super fast here!
PastelPinkStrawberry 4 points 1y ago
If you still hate the sloshing, we have a few regulars who get the drink in a cup one size up with extra ice, so that might be worth trying so you still get your money's worth out of the drink!
Exhausted_mama93 6 points 1y ago
My old store has started using one of the extra toddy’s for the refresher base. They make enough to fill it and it lasts most of the day!
coffee-and-chillll 4 points 1y ago
That sounds like an awesome idea, maybe I can get my store on board with that :)
saltandseasmoke 7 points 1y ago
I rarely get annoyed with no or light ice folks (especially if they're understanding about how we make a drink, like a shaken espresso, and compromise so we can make it correctly) but I filled an uber order today for a trenta SAR with no water no ice and no inclusions and it just straight up felt wrong lol.
coffee-and-chillll 3 points 1y ago
I’m so sorry you had to make such an excessive order. And to add to that, it was an Uber order? Ugh, to me that makes it all the more excessive. The trenta no ice, no water, no inclusions refreshers are absolutely ridiculous. Every time I get an order like that I just want to give the customer a box of our refresher juice, just to emphasize how ridiculous their order is. Making refreshers like that absolutely feels wrong, and just so excessive.

When those orders come through I immediately realize I will need to prep a lot more refresher pitchers considering one of those drinks takes up at least half a pitcher 🫠
Loose_Bumblebee 1 points 1y ago
i also made a trenta SAR w no ice or berries and it felt wrong 😭
makmelaf17 1 points 1y ago
I agree... but sbux has a plan for things like this...
SnooMacarons4754 45 points 1y ago
Ex partner here!

As annoying as that may be, I now totally understand the light ice thing. It’s a lot of money to pay for a ventj coffee and get home and it be done already 😂 people pay too much money for that much ice and you want a little extra to sip on
orangeygirly 15 points 1y ago
I agree, it’s not like it’s coming out of our paycheck. Light ice on lattes is pretty stupid, but starbucks is expensive and people deserve to get a bang for their buck.
zedazeni 22 points 1y ago
It’s 50 cents to put something in a blender. Time is money!
Inside_Drink_3968 10 points 1y ago
It doesn’t take more time to put less ice in something
ihateyousoymatcha 7 points 1y ago
I was excited for this until the customers realised they can get cheaper Frappuccinos just blending other drinks.
zedazeni 3 points 1y ago
It’s the same thing with the overly complicated shaken espresso beverages. A venti brown sugar shaken espresso where I’m at costs around $6.40, but to do it as a latte (which is what it amounts to when people ask for light ice and extra milk) is around $8.60. More than two dollars more to order the exact same drink as a latte. No wonder why people order the shaken espressos and then modify the crap out of them!

Get a venti iced quad coconut milk caramel latte for two dollars by ordering the oat milk shaken espresso sub caramel sub coconut milk no cinnamon and save yourself $2+ 😑
peepeepoopaccount 17 points 1y ago
Why? It’s not like we get the extra 50 cents. Why should Starbucks profit from our work?
lawrruhh 5 points 1y ago
Exactly my thoughts. All these people requesting we charge more for these things as if I'm not trying to steal as much as I can from any corporate company lmao.
1cysp1cy 9 points 1y ago
i naturally am lighter on ice when making drinks, customers still like to bitch about it. i’ve seen my coworkers dump out the ice and replace it with water when customers complain
pinkshadedgirafe 8 points 1y ago
I was a partner for 2.5 years and never minded this modification. I also order an iced chai latte with light ice (and an extra pump of chai), which I'm told repeatedly is the easiest drink people make and they don't mind the light ice one bit. I also don't have a million other mods.
thizzinpeace 3 points 1y ago
i don’t think we should charge for lite ice but i do wish we had a system like dutch. we go through so much product because people want extra lite ice like 3 ice cubes 😭😭 lite ice should be no charge but it should be standardized so there’s like a universal lite ice procedure. and no ice, to the top drinks should be charged. otherwise i feel no ice drinks should be going to the line 🥲 it may not directly equate to labor but it is annoying that trenta no ice drinks are so popular rn and we’re always splitting cubes, making new ones, or running out of product 😭😭
FloridaUniversity 3 points 1y ago

No.

Some are so heavy handed with the ice
madihasson 2 points 1y ago
at my old coffee shop we would measure out the liquid for no ice drinks so there was always a pretty large gap in the cup. It was worth getting yelled at tbh, why would you be getting more drink when you pay for a certain amount
Necessary_Low939 2 points 1y ago
Honestly the ice doesn’t bother me. Sure I may have to prep another batch of açaí more oftenly but that’s ok. I just hate the 5+ mods
hgfdv 2 points 1y ago
Haha, like Starbucks is not expensive enough 😄

i work at a licensed location and we 100% charge for light and no ice. Light ice is 0.50, no ice is either 1.50 or 2.00 depending on size.
itachisbigbootygf 1 points 1y ago
idk abt u guys but i don’t get paid enough to care about that. if they want light ice then light ice lol.
KenansCloud 1 points 1y ago
Consideration for corporate; make drink with less ice by standard (except SEs and fraps which have ice ad a core component)
theepi_pillodu 1 points 1y ago
Then decrease the price by $2if I buy it standard, because I can get a big bag of ice for $2, I don't need to pay $7 for half of my drink and half filled with ice in a venti.

Either_Square4366 -2 points 1y ago
