Someone recently came into my store, and said he has no money but would love if we could spare some coffee. I gave him a tall pike because why not, we usually end up dumping it anyways. He then asked me to add two expresso shots into it???? I already broke the rules to do something nice, why would you push the boundaries?
Another guy yesterday said his drink was too light so i offered to add more milk. He said he wanted me to add two shots instead. These people are not even slick with the fact that they are trying to get free stuff because they think we have to say yes. I’m over people taking customer service generosity for granted.

Had a woman get mad when she asked me to give her a short cup of some vanilla bean powder for her coffees, I said I can certainly add as many scoops as she’d like over at the register where I could charge her. She looked at me absolutely shocked and asked me why, I said you have to pay for product you want. The classic “oh but i never pay” okay….but today you do lol I can’t stand these entitled old people always thinking everything is owed to them.

Had someone order "6 trenta strawberry waters" and was pissed when I told them I could do 6 venti waters but can't do free strawberry pieces in them. She was genuinely shocked. I'm all about doing what's right for the customer within means, but that just sets up my coworkers and other stores to have to comply in the future because "that one barista did it for me".

“They do it for me at other stores” is the bane of my existence. Be happy that people are making an exception for you but dont assume that its their job to do so.

ANY time I have given a customer anything for free that should be charged, I ALWAYS ALWAYS tell them “I’m happy to do this for you at no charge today. However I want you to know that when you order this it will be an extra charge.” We were just talking about the phrase “they do it at the other Sbux” last night with our SM. We can ask which location and if the store is in our district our SM will contact the DM. Obviously we can’t contact or control every Sbux. However if we can at least keep continuity within our district hopefully we can know that line “they do it at the other Sbux” is a lie or the customer is from out of town and we can explain the Sbux Standards.
Also that water with strawberries was a serious issue with these two girls a couple years ago and our DM said we have to ring it as a custom tea.
Here’s another issue we talked about with our SM — the amount of milk in the iced shaken espresso drinks. We have had customers order a grande in a venti cup with light ice and “fill the cup with milk”. That’s a HARD NO! You want extra ice? No problem! A little extra milk, ok we can do that. But when they ask for light ice and then want the cup filled with milk——That is a LATTE and you’re going to pay for that.

the shaken espressos cost about the same as a latte.

This little kid always tries to get a water with raspberry in it because he thinks it's only gonna be 80 cents, but the bux wants it rang up like a tea. If he wasn't such a little shit head, I would just do it for him and not charge him.

Yeah honestly they pull things like that and think that we have to say yes.
My shift once told me of a story where this one lady would come in anywhere between two to three hours after the store opened and she would try to order a venti frappuccino in a Trenta cup whenever it was a new partner unregister and they wouldn't know that they're not allowed to put Frappuccinos in Trenta cups and they would ring her up for that and type in the ask me area for the Barista to put it in a Trenta cup. Then apparently she would go wait at the handoff area and while the Barista is making the drink, apparently the lady would always try to ask for an extra shot or two of espresso for free to be added into her Frappuccino. Thank God I never had to deal with her
Then one time I remember a few weeks ago I was on bar and there weren't too many people in the store but I did have a handful of mobile orders and there was one customer waiting in store for her Trenta green iced tea which was in my queue of drinks. Then this one lady comes up to the side of my espresso machine and she tells me that she placed a mobile order already for a venti hot latte and she said she forgot to add an extra shot in there and she stands in front of the register and then asked me if she can get another shot in there. So my shift says she doesn't have to pay for it and that we got her covered so the lady goes over to the mobile order area and grabs her latte and then brings it over and puts it on the high counter on the side of my espresso machine and so i finish the drink that I was working on and then I queue her 1 shot of espresso. Then I turn around and start making the green iced tea for the lady that's waiting in the store for it and so I make the ice tea and then I go over to the handoff to give it to the lady and then I come back to get the shot for the lady so I can put it in her latte but at that point she had walked out the store and she was taking her latte to put it in the car and then came back in to wait for her food. She did it that way so that I can see that she was annoyed. Like really you can't wait 20 seconds for a shot that is being given to you for free? I kept telling her that well the shot was pulling, I was just finishing a quick drink for the customer that was waiting in the store and she kept saying "no its ok" in an annoyed tone. People blow mind...

One customer consistently comes in and orders a trenta ice coffee with 3 shots and some other additions. They then proceed to pick up their drink, and immediately go and get a "refill". Most of the baristas didn't know the rules revolving refills, so now we have to stop her. The thing is, we've told her multiple times we can't do it for her anymore, yet she waits till their are new baristas on register to order her refill cause she knows they won't know the rules. Then she gets upset and defensive when we make her pay full price.

So they can get a refill of the iced coffee but they have to pay for the extra shots right ? Or am I just confused on refill policy?

They have to have been in the lobby for 30 minutes. She just immediately orders it haha.
