Um, I think I messed up (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Kitabparast
Gorgeous, hot guy comes. Orders a tall nitro. I comp him (actually, use my partner bev on him, since I don’t use it anyway). He’s confused. He asks why. I say just because. (What? I should tell him it’s because he’s gorgeous beyond compare and just looking at him made my day?) In the end, he’s grateful but confused. Bet he was straight. (Other guys I’ve done this for who were obviously gay just smile and wink. And were never confused.)

How do I respond when someone asks why they’re getting a free drink?

You shouldn’t be giving away your partner bev to anyone, let alone strangers… it’s a fireable offence
proletarithot 26 points 1y ago
And OP must have been using someone else’s till if their partner numbers worked. I give away free drinks for many reasons (legit or otherwise), but this comment is correct that if they want to fire you— they’ll go after basic stuff like improper partner markouts, till sharing, being 5min late here and there…

Give the cutie and free drink and say it’s because you wanted to brighten their day. But don’t leave a paper trail by using your numbers.

a fireable offense that every single person i’ve met including myself have used partner numbers to mark our drinks for random people. me and numbers of shifts and managers have given nurses, family, friends, etc. free drinks using numbers. starbucks cant fire literally stores of people for a free mark out here and there. also you respond by telling them “it’s on me today, i wanted to make your day a little brighter” or something like that and they usually accept it and walk away

edit: typos

thats what a right now recovery is for. use that instead

No starbucks can't fire entire stores but it still can get you fired, especially if management is trying to get rid of you. I've known people (both baristas and ssvs) who've been fired for giving out their drink markout. Just know your taking that gamble every time you do it.

That’s when you use a recovery card or 100% discount option, but definitely not your partner discount or beverage, as it is mentioned in the discount policy, a fireable offence. Partner beverages are meant to be consumed by you in the store 30 mins before your shift, on any of your breaks and after your shift, and not by anyone else

yes it's a fireable offense that many people commit but the SM/DM/company are free to pick and choose who to fire because of it. If you have not done it, they will have to find something else on you. You just made yourself harder to fire
caligirlthrowaway104 3 points 1y ago
I meeean just because you and people around you in the store have done it and not been fired, doesn’t mean that they can’t or won’t fire you for it. Starbucks technically COULD fire whole stores of people if they did this, but the chances they would are slim. But you take the risk every time you do it.

Next time use a recovery card and if any higher ups (or hot customers) ask questions, you were simply “making the moment right” or “filling someone’s cup that seemed to be half empty” what a good employee, you!

This a would be a case of right now recovery button. Handing the guy a $4 card for his next drink would be super weird.

Yeah don’t use partner bevs on hot guys ESPECIALLY if they’re straight... A) hot people are used to having things handed to them B) it’ll get you in trouble
So not worth it lol
crzyshiba 11 points 1y ago
Hot people privilege’s I call it hahah
im_feeling_cold 16 points 1y ago
i know this isn’t the point of your post but use right now recovery next time instead of your partner numbers it’s less sus
AlectoBlood43 4 points 1y ago
Maybe next time tell them you just wanted to make their day a little brighter and you felt like being nice.
spongepants19 2 points 1y ago
Maybe I’m just a stickler, but I dislike when coworkers flirt with customers because uncomfortable situations like this have happened before, so I would say to just leave the flirting away from work
psionicillusionist 2 points 1y ago
Basically what I'd say is "because it's a great day (now that your hot ass is here) and sometimes people deserve nice things (in this case because I'm devastatingly attracted to you)!" but don't say the quiet part loud ;)
