hey, at least you ended on relatively good terms! the way i left starbucks was so suddenly negative and i wish it hadn’t been that way. so good for you!
ItzBoogieMan 25 points 1y ago
Can I ask how it went?

i was *what i thought to be* on my way to becoming a trainer after working towards it for around 7 months. my manager had told me multiple times that she was working on it but never got me the proper training. unbeknownst to me, she had meeting with all of the ssv’s, and 3 out of the 5 (whom i’d never worked with in my time there) told her that i wasn’t fit to become a trainer. i found this out through one of the two who had vouched for me, and after talking with my manager and realizing that she wasn’t going to make any sort of move to begin training, i decided to put in my two weeks. she berated me about the fact that “she was trusting me take up a trainer position” even though she had said to my face that it wasn’t going to happen. she kept scheduling me past the date that i had set for my time there to end, and would mark every day that i didn’t show up as a no call no show even though i didn’t work for the company anymore. let’s just say that according to her, i won’t be working for another store any time soon.

Damn what a bitch. Clearly abuses her power as a manager and I see this often too. I plan to quit this summer hopefully, I’ll tip all my partners and coworkers handsomely, no 2 weeks from me.
mars_redacted 20 points 1y ago
especially on the corporate level, it makes no sense to warn a company that doesn’t care about you that you’re leaving when their entire mindset is that they can replace you before you even step foot out the door. fuck starbucks
FatherDimes 5 points 1y ago
I always find it so sad when I hear things like this :( the manager and SSVs at my store are so kind and helpful and go out of their way to help you improve and move up the ladder. I may not feel valued by the company but everyone in our store knows we all value each other, including management and SSVs. I hope where you’re working now treats you with the respect you deserve
monzoink 4 points 1y ago
That really really sucks. I had a kinda different situation where my manager kept telling one of my shifts (I was just a barista and this didn’t affect me but was awk looking in) that she was gonna be like fast tracked into being a SM and that my manager was doing everything he could to get my shift to be a manager fast. Except the thing was, it seemed evident that this shift wasn’t fit to be a store manager, and my SM kept pushing it off but kept telling my shift that she was gonna be an ASM soon, but that never happened even after like 2 years. It was super sad to see, because at least a manager should be honest with you one way or another instead of stringing people along for ages having them thinking they would get promoted…
sero5074 2 points 1y ago
Very similar to mine. It sucked.
YorkTownBratty 2 points 1y ago
Omg are you me?! My store manager did the same thing lmao.
rudebii 75 points 1y ago
As a salty lead and trainer that went through a bunch of managers, I told all of them “your best ones will eventually leave, don’t take it personally.” Must didn’t take the lesson to heart and always resented good staff leaving, and worse, blocked good leads from moving up internally to keep them as good shifts as long as possible.
Swan97 18 points 1y ago
Mine old manager always shit talks anyone who quits. Like I was one of her best (and only) closing shifts and she talked bad about me to the others. I honestly should've quit sooner since she forgot to schedule me for training and my first shift was during peak with only 2 other people. I was just expected to learn everything on my own. Most of night shift left when I did cause the other lead had terrible time management and they were luck to get out an hour and a half after close. Yet my old manager always talks about how she's doing a great job
defendtrevornoah 56 points 1y ago
Gotta admit it’s in funny to consider an actual face to face conversation going the same way with just your manager wordlessly throwing the thumbs up and walking away.
LaurabelleBabe 35 points 1y ago
Mine thanked me for my service…
_ANDLEE_ 61 points 1y ago
Yo manager said 🫡
ohhot-pot-ao 27 points 1y ago
My manager never said anything from the moment I texted her to the day I left my last shift, just complete silence from her on the subject.
computernoobe 22 points 1y ago
Have fun with your local cafe!!! I'm stuck at another job right now but you're about to live my dream. I'll join you soon \~
lindi07 [OP] 18 points 1y ago
Thank you so much. It’s been my dream for months and I’m so happy I got perfect timing to apply while the cafe just opened last week
Tsunami_Eels 20 points 1y ago
Wait we can just text them the 2 weeks? I’ve been trying to type mine up for an hour to make it sound sweet 🥲
mars_redacted 20 points 1y ago
i straight up wrote on a post it that i’m putting my two weeks in and left it in my managers box. just a solid, “please accept this as my formal two weeks. my last day is on X day.” 😂 my view is that the most they can do at that point is let me go on the spot
Tsunami_Eels 3 points 1y ago
Fair enough! I just don’t particularly.. want to give a whole letter as a notice like i’ve done for previous jobs since the treatment I receive from them is god awful. I honestly thought about just a “two days” notice 😭
lindi07 [OP] 9 points 1y ago
I work opposite shifts of my SM but I wanted to do it in person
becksaroni 2 points 1y ago
I wouldn't recommend texting it as all the store I've worked at don't consider texts as formal store communication. If you plan on working at Starbucks ever again, they could hold it against you if they wanted. 😔
lindi07 [OP] 7 points 1y ago
Yeah :( hopefully I never have to go back. I loved it at first but not anymore man it sucked the life out of me
Texastexastexas1 19 points 1y ago
That means yes, ok, I got the message, this is an appropriate resignation and it would be great if you got your shifts covered. What reply did you want?
lindi07 [OP] 62 points 1y ago
probably exactly what you just texted out LOL
Levinem717 26 points 1y ago
How incredibly unprofessional for a manager to respond to an employee like that. I used to hate hearing my managers say stupid bullshit like “we are a multi billion dollar company, we act like it”. No they do not.
lindi07 [OP] 20 points 1y ago
Yeah I felt it was really unprofessional. Like I wish he would’ve said what that person typed out because there’s no way I could’ve assumed he felt that way. It just instills even more that I’m just a number to be replaced… which is fine… but I hate how Starbucks tries to be like a locally owned coffeehouse with good morals and instills humanity when it totally isn’t
Levinem717 8 points 1y ago
You are a number to be replaced. They’ve really shifted from “partner” to “number”. It’s blatant. Even the Starbucks motto is forgotten. I have no clue what happened to this company, but it’s no longer a coffee shop. It’s a frozen Youghurt shop, disguised as a coffee shop, because they let you order one thing and customize it till the earth stops rotating.

On a side note, being fired from Starbucks feels like winning the lottery, because as soon as you land something that pays even remotely close, you’ll realize how truly undervalued you were at your store.
lindi07 [OP] 18 points 1y ago
OKAY it is what it is but I expected a little more you know?? I’m sad LMAO
Honey_Ginger 7 points 1y ago
Being an "at will" employee, giving two weeks is
nice but not needed.
mission_accident-773 3 points 1y ago
mine said she wasnt surprised and that shes seeing everyone drop like flies she said thanks for even telling her cause I guess the last few just stopped showing up
RinnTheOtter 3 points 1y ago
I wouldn’t show for the rest of my shifts, that’s bs
lindi07 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
Don’t give me any ideas !!! LOL
thegingerhannah 3 points 1y ago
Mine didn't even do that much, he left me on read 🥴
Druid_of_Twilight 3 points 1y ago
Congrats 👏 on the new job
Dzfranken 2 points 1y ago
It would be respectful to go in and make time to talk to your manager in person.
lindi07 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
I’m a fulltime college student working two (well worked) jobs… trust me if I could I would.

I texted mine as well & she replied “ ok sure “ lollllll
xMoon_Faeryx 2 points 1y ago
I turned my two weeks in as a SSV. I had to call in two days of those due to my health (height of the COVID pandemic, too) and the second day my SM just told me not to come back. Had 8 people leave the store in the following weeks, so that was karmatic justice
lilkiosk 2 points 1y ago
My manager didn’t say anything to me. And turned off my partner numbers before my last day. So truly, you’re blessed!
icech1ps 2 points 1y ago
That does suck but at least you ended on an okay note. My resignation from my old job went.....bad.
haydensidun 2 points 1y ago
At least you put it in writing
