fighting for my life (self.starbucksbaristas)

today was my first day on bar entirely on my own (as in no training or being in support position) 😭😭😭 bro

i feel like I did so bad!!! no customer complaints other than some obvious time stretches here and there, fumbled quite a lot tho and accidentally made huge messes (which ofc I cleaned up but still 😭, not as graceful as I would have liked)

Bet you did great! First few shifts on bar are rough. Good luck :)

TY!! I’m still getting the hang of recipes, but I’m starting to get the hang of it
my biggest issue is sequencing, multitasking is not my strong suit 😭

Welcome to the team! I think everyone felt this way when they first started. It can be really overwhelming. Good thing about it is everyone has been thru it so fellow partners are usually very understanding . You will get better it just takes time. Just try not to rush yourself. The more flustered u get the more things will spiral out of control. Bonus of working for sbux is that u have a place like this to go to n talk to ppl who have been in your shoes that can help guide u. Also there's a bunch of good links that can make ur first couple of months alot easier!

As u said, no customer complaints so u did good! Some starbucks customers will always complain about wait times even if they have been waiting less than 5 minutes lol. The fact that u did it all by urself and got thru it is amazing🙂

TY!!! my biggest issue is sequencing/doing multiple drinks at once, I tend to fumble or blank out a whole lot in the process.. hopefully it goes away with time as I get more comfortable with the recipes! 😭

Oh yeah it will definitely get better in time! When I first started, everything was literally like learning a different language to me when it came to the drink sequencing and remembering the recipes and I literally thought to myself that I would never ever memorize or be good at any of it. Now I'm the second or third fastest person on bar at my store. It will literally become muscle memory as you go on🙂 do not even worry about people waiting because it's life and they have to wait for things. Just keep doing your best and don't overwhelm Yourself by thinking about what the customers are thinking about. You're not a robot, you're just a human and you're just starting out so you will definitely get better. A thought that I like is "i dont care what people think about me. What people think about me is none of my business" and it kind of helped me get through the part where I what's always afraid of customers getting angry at me and thinking I'm too slow or horrible at my job when I first started.

thanks so much, I really appreciate this 😭 I definitely get extremely anxious about whether or not the customers are getting nippy or judging how I made their drink and if it was wrong. The customers that I have made the wrong drink (usually mixing up chai tea and chai latte), have so far been sweet. Really appreciate all the help and support 😭💚

Yepp of course💜 and yeah it's always good to have nice customers that understand that you're just starting out and that understand that you're human and you make mistakes and Mix-Ups. Those types of customers make me actually feel like a Human Instead of a coffee making robot lol you will definitely get better and I hope your days on bar are always smooth and trouble-free!
