When I was starting in starbucks, one of my first positions was ovens. Every time a customer would order a brownie I would give out two because it comes in pairs, so I thought I was supposed to handle both. I was never caught doing this, I found out that it was just one when I saw another coworker just warming up one and hand it off. At that moment my face went 0_0
Electrical_Metal_106179 points1y ago
I did the same with the petite vanilla scones. I poured all 4 into a pastry bag.
peepeepoopaccount69 points1y ago
I did the same too lmao
At least I hope the person was happy!
lilly260_60 points1y ago
Sometimes I accidentally pour too many into the bag and let them have it lmao
aee7826 points1y ago
Same, unless they're rude, then I'll fish that bad boy out.
xXTimbloXx31 points1y ago
Okay but they’re ridiculously overpriced anyways
batman_thedead9 points1y ago
i thought it was 2 for a good while
Jaded_Fun_71333 points1y ago
A recent green bean put the entire thing of petit scones packaged in plastic in a pastry bag when they were on warming, I was on window and was like why does this feel crinkly and I looked inside 😂😂😂
Tara_Kitten97 points1y ago
Not me, but there's a barista who's been working at my store for a few months. When someone ordered iced coffee, they poured a pike and put ice in it. I've had to correct them twice lol
dirtychai021854 points1y ago
kind of similar, i saw a green bean putting hot water into an iced americano 😭😭
heytherecomputer38 points1y ago
One time I was so flustered as a green bean that I steamed milk for an iced drink AND poured it into the iced cup.
Eastern_Effective_4925 points1y ago
I did the opposite. One time I poured cold milk into a hot mocha lmaoo. That was my first time on bar during peak and it got really busy.
iiiimagery3 points1y ago
Same
aspiringgrandpa5 points1y ago
i did this bc i thought “breve” meant ONLY steamed half and half not just replacing the regular milk with half and half 😭

Responsible_Snow710911 points1y ago
Lol i saw a green bean putting cold water in a hot chai tea latte
I also saw a green bean make an iced matcha latte by using cold water instead of milk lol
orangeygirly9 points1y ago
I was told a story about a barista doing that for years before he was corrected
shitpost4448 points1y ago
i did this once for some reason too ??? my manager was like “did you just put boiling water into a iced americano”
xylophonezygote4 points1y ago
I got screamed at for doing this on my third day by a random partner lol
sero507414 points1y ago
LOL one day it was just 3 of us on the floor and we heard “iced coffee” over the headset and we all looked at each other like ??? What is iced coffee?? How to make iced Coffee???? Cuz we rarely ever got that and then it came to us that it’s in fact already made Soy Sauce Water in a pitcher but we had a laugh about that cuz we all collectively forgot iced coffee existed at Starbucks other than iced white mocha 10 pumps white mocha made with sweet cream extra vsccf and extra caramel drizzle
7beforeminutes524 points1y ago
The soy sauce smell is frapp roast not iced coffee. I hope you didn’t give out frapp roast over ice! Poor customer Bahahaha
sero5074-1 points1y ago
They both smelled like soy sauce to me. That wasn’t the point of my story anyway lol
jdogg5110 points1y ago
i wasn’t even green enough of a bean for this to be acceptable but once someone ordered an iced americano and the girl on bar shows me just the shots in the cup and is like what do i do with all this extra space because it’s not milk??? keeping in mind we’ve both been there over 6 months and we just stand there staring at each other until i just go fill it with shots and she agrees with me and we laugh about how dumb it would’ve been if we forgot…then it hits us later that night that we are indeed missing a brain cell or two

ew
Have_Donut39 points1y ago
Reading this thread I see a lot of Greenbeans working, but the mistakes are being made by the trainers, not the new folk
kennsnaps34 points1y ago
At my store we don't have cold brew kegs, we use pitchers. No one told me those were supposed to be diluted.
Swimming-Fee-24459 points1y ago
I think I did that a few times until I saw a more experienced barista dilute it. Then it clicked for me!
LaurabelleBabe29 points1y ago
When I was brand new I did this with cake pops.. I always wondered why did didn’t pull enough 😂
blackboynxtdoor26 points1y ago
My first day on front register after I completed training I put a chocolate chip cookie in the oven and went to help my line. I thought the ovens worked like microwaves, so when the oven started going off I didn't think anything of it. I thought oh it's going to stop cooking it will be fine. So I went back to get the chocolate chip cookie out, and I opened the oven and the cookie was on fire. Thankfully that was 4.5 years ago and I learned my lesson that moment.
noeyoureatowel12 points1y ago
To be fair, spontaneous cookie combustion is a known occurrence. It’s happened to me a couple of times.
leeblissy8 points1y ago
oh my god what a way to learn 😭
kennsnaps16 points1y ago
When oat bars came in packs of 4, I would give the stacked 2.... Noticed they stopped packaging them like that, so maybe I'm not the only one 😂
Better_Dust_236413 points1y ago
Not me One of my fellow partners had been taught to make matcha lattes but not matcha lemonades (not common at all here) and rather than ask they just put together matcha lemonade AND MILK and handed it out like that 😭 they said the customer didn’t say anything and just drank it
Our whole store also didn’t realize until a few months ago that the strawberries and crème Frappuccino has classic in it 🤡
TheRockWitch10 points1y ago
I missed the part that said iced venti’s get 3 shots and only did 2 for like 3 months, my b customers ✌🏻
aspiringgrandpa7 points1y ago
i remember the extra shot but i STILL forget to put 6 pumps in venti iced drinks 😭😅
dazedinreverse9 points1y ago
The first brownie order i got on ovens i did this. The very next day I was put on warming and realized there was an open brownie on the tray and put two and two together 🤣
Broad-Flounder-49718 points1y ago
I thank god every day that I have prior experience as a barista, so when I am on bar as a green bean, I don’t make *as* many rookie mistakes. I did have to ask how Starbucks does their London fog since they do most things in their own super-special way.
Me: y’all do like 3/4 water (they don’t because they consider it a latte so it’s half?) and some vanilla with earl grey, right?
Fit-Scar-5172 [OP]3 points1y ago
That’s right
LaurabelleBabe7 points1y ago
When I was brand new I did this with cake pops.. I always wondered why did didn’t pull enough 😂
roovols5 points1y ago
I burn myself every single time a warm up a grilled cheese.
I’m on like a 8 shift streak of being burnt.
Glad I’m on vacation this week lol
kittencyistaken1 points1y ago
This used to happen to my entire store until we found out that the butter side always goes up. I mean... it still happens, but less lmfao
Fantastic135710 points1y ago
Actually standard is cooking it butter facing down but I like butter facing up because I don’t like burning myself :)
the-earth-says-hello4 points1y ago
I was so undertrained and just oblivious to coffee culture when I first started that I,,, steamed all milks,,, even for cold drinks,,, had no idea what was goin on lmao
coreshaker4 points1y ago
I cooked ham&cheese croissant on ham&swiss panini setting for a few days until a customer complained how the food was overcooked 🫠
coffeegirrrl4 points1y ago
One that I feel about 1 out of 2 new partners does, is try to brew coffee without grinding first. The amount of times I've just caught them in time, is shocking
chaddybabydaddy283 points1y ago
As a trainer the following 3 months after a new hire I’m within earshot to catch them if anything goes south. Besides that, I allow little mistakes so that they themselves learn and develop their own techniques. No matter how many times you tell somebody something, mistakes are the best teacher sometimes. Mistakes are normal, human, and totally okay
Big_Pension_12 points1y ago
When I first started, I would take the egg bites out of the oven and put them loosey goosey in the panini bag. No tray, no fork, nothing. Those poor customers.
kelseadoodle2 points1y ago
I first started working at Starbucks a little over two years ago, when I first started I was there for about 6/7 months, then left to go to school and didn’t work during that time, when I came back after 5 months they just threw me back into the fire like I never left and I stg for a solid 7 months I was making venti hot drinks with 6 pumps and caramel macchiatos with normal latte amount of pumps 😭
Jena8765432 points1y ago
Had a new guy on oven during rush and after my 10 I switched with him and found half a dozen single brownies in the opened food bin. He just kept forgetting he had them it was kind of funny. We sold them within the hour though so all was good.
GGspumpkin1 points1y ago
I thought you only gave out one egg bite and it was handed out cold unless other wise stated. It was really bad but it didn’t last long
iiiimagery1 points1y ago
I mixed up the bacon gouda and double smoked bacon for a good 3 hours. They finally realized that so many customers got the wrong sandwich because one bag was squishier than the other (doublesmoked)

I once saw a green bean putting two shots only in an iced venti americano.
