What do you do when you're on front/warming with no orders? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by PaleontologistLoud37
Just curious. It never specifically came up in my training but I always feel so weirdly awkward whenever I get put on front/warming and there's no orders or anything and I just end up standing there.

I count the fruit flys and try to convince them to join a union
7beforeminutes5 18 points 1y ago
If the fruit flies could vote our store would unionize in a moments notice.
blackcatcaptions 12 points 1y ago
Bruh, they're forming battalions at our store. I think they have hopes of siezing the refresher bases and inclusions by force
7beforeminutes5 6 points 1y ago
I dread to see how many new recruits come for the passion fruit next month. Ugh.

It's only just begun

Clean & restock, pre grind next batch of coffee, and bag up coffee grounds
nicolelynnejones 15 points 1y ago
pre grinding is such a good idea idk why i never thought of that.
idkcassie 14 points 1y ago
make sure to only pre grind if it’s busy and you’ve been rebrewing/running out a lot. otherwise it’s a quality hazard and some managers don’t like it.
jeonzelink 12 points 1y ago
dont pre grind if it’s slow because it’ll oxidize the coffee and dry out the flavors which make it not fresh. only when you’re doing a 10 min brewing cycle.
nicolelynnejones 2 points 1y ago
good points

I stand there and click the tongs
TJW351 5 points 1y ago
I knew someone who could play Sandstorm on the tongs. It was impressive lol

Click the tongs 🦀

Clean, restock my area, check coffees, possibly grab stuff for the bar. Jump on the second reg and ring if they have a line. Check the CSR cards.
redmercedes87 12 points 1y ago
Bother my coworkers
Alarming_Base3148 12 points 1y ago
Stock- this also includes the RTDE case. This is very neglected at my store.
In agreement with others, flex to CS for other baristas, but don't get too caught up on flexing
Illustrious-Air9834 10 points 1y ago
Literally happened to me when I first started working there and I felt so awkward bc I didn’t know WHAT ELSE I could be doing. I would say filling up ice bins and stocking up lids and cups and whatever else (without being in the way💕) best of luck!!!
dazedandconfusedhere 10 points 1y ago
Rotate pastries or sandwiches as needed, restock, clean.
crescent_coop 5 points 1y ago
take a lil nap, as a treat
PercyGabriel1129 5 points 1y ago
I would say check the CSR cards if your store uses them. If they don't or they are already done, I'd say just wipe down anything and everything that you can. Get underneath the machines, wipe down places that people wouldn't normally think of. Make sure everything looks relatively tidy. Or ask your SSV if they are free!
short_4_furnace 5 points 1y ago
Clean and restock mostly, I always try to help out CS and cold bar wherever I can too.
underdoglush 4 points 1y ago
Cafe spins, windex windows, sweep cafe, clean bathroom, restock teas, 1ld. whole beans bags, dust… I always find something to do; my partners hate it 😂
persona-2 3 points 1y ago
If everything is stocked then lobby slide.
create_consciousness 3 points 1y ago
Restock customer register area (don’t know what it’s called), restock waters and juices -you know, rtd stuff. Restock tea bags, help make backups.. honestly, you just gotta ask if there’s anything to be done. As a shift, that just brings tears to my eyes and warmth to my heart. Best of luck 🤙🏼
emmymariex 3 points 1y ago
i am so glad to hear a shift likes when asked for a task, i always feel so bad asking because my coworkers seem to just know what needs to be done but i don't have that intuition
BigTrifle4969 3 points 1y ago
If you are comfortable with the people you are working with ask them if they need anything! Like restocking, getting new sanitizer water, wiping off ur area, and sometimes later in the afternoon when we are just brewing pike it’s really helpful to clean the coffee urns off. If it’s really not busy and they don’t need anything you could always try and work on backups. Ooo and changing trash or wiping off cafe tables is something that’s neglected a lot
amygrigar 3 points 1y ago
there’s always something to clean
greattemerity 3 points 1y ago
Like others said I normally clean and stock but if it’s that slow fuck around and talk to coworkers
3plants 2 points 1y ago
Make sure everything is stocked. Ask cs if there’s anything near your station that was on their list of stuff to do. Even If it’s not SUPER slow, you can slowly but surely stock impulse items little by little
Intelligent-Ad1273 2 points 1y ago
I usually flex to cs. Make backups, whips, etc. restock cups and lids, dry mop if needed. Always ask your bar partners if they need anything and do that first. I guarantee they’ll always need cups, ice, syrups, etc restocked
nothereforit97 2 points 1y ago
Stock the RTD case
nicolelynnejones 2 points 1y ago
Restock RTD&E and deep clean warming area. Check brewed coffees. I like to bleach the hand wash sink and whatever drains I can reach. Wipe down warming fridge. Sweet up any gunk behind the bar.

We never have enough time between customers to help anyone out on bar or get ice, but sometimes if we have a brief lull with nothing else to do, we will clean off tables and condo bar with sanitizer wipes.

CS, wipe counters
P_2_P 1 points 1y ago
Officially you are to support the partner on register. Gather coffees for them and what not. Essentially try to keep them planted for as long as possible.
