Thank you TikTok straw sucking vanilla sweet cream foaming at the mouth assholes. Some dude obliviously came in to order the “under the sea refresher “ with fruit pieces for his son.
Took five minutes to explain to him what that was, why people would do it , and that it would literally kill him, proceeded by him openly trying to record my confession and reaction.
Obviously I told this gent that I didn’t want to be recorded. But yeah whoever you are with white skin and a FUGLY ASS early 2000s Bieber cut, *screw you*.

A kid came in last week for that. She was definitely under 10 and with her mom. I didn’t want to tell her it was urnex so I told her it was blue Gatorade and someone just made it at home with an empty cup they had.

Straight up told the guy it was a mixture of highly corrosive and dangerous chemicals that we specifically use to clean our coffee brewers with. Can’t let it go on 😭

The original one was blue Gatorade, sprite, and gummy worms. That’s what I’ve been telling people when they come in

I always tell people straight to their face that it was a joke drink and they used our windex to make it, and that I will not be selling them cleaning solution. Most of the time the parents laugh and tell their kid to get a pink drink or something.

I’m sorry some asshole didn’t believe you and escalated the situation. Definitely make an incident report and inform your manager.

I don’t go to Starbucks like once every few years. In 2019 I went and got a drink I saw online somewhere. It was called the IT Frappe. Which was just a vanilla bean frappe with strawberry purée. Luckily I went with a friend and she frequented Starbucks enough so I didn’t walk in there and go I want the “IT Frappe”. Just read off the ingredients instead.

As a diary Queen worker I feel bad always seeing thousands of customized Starbucks drinks. Me and my co workers get annoyed when someone orders stuff not on the menu and every week there’s a new worker who is like “how do I make a s’mores blizzard there’s no ingredient card”

ahh i actually did this with the IT frap like 2 yrs ago. i had just seen the name online and had no idea what the ingredients were. it was humiliating 🤦‍♀️

As a former bux barista *and* former DQ worker I can say that at least with DQ the customizations are somewhat limited.
Here is the reasoning:

I haven’t been with DQ since like 2011, but I recall there was a “custom blizzard” option in the POS (now mind you, we still had the ollldddd registers with the green monotone display that were barely recognizable as a “computer” so I have no idea if this is even part of their system anymore) and we used to tell people that we could put just about any combination of blizzard ingredients in a blizzard for them. Sometimes they would order x,y,z ingredients and we’d go “oh yeah, that’s actually a regular menu item, the ‘xyz blizzard’, we can get you that”. Other times they’d make up a mess of ingredients and we’d have to remake a more normal treat because they didn’t like it. Either way it wasn’t too different than making any other blizzard with multiple ingredients. Now, say you had a customer ask for something in a blizzard that is an ingredient for another food item that does not go in blizzards, is not in the optional ingredients for blizzards, and really has no business being in a blizzard to begin with - we’ll even say they ask for something rather outlandish like the chili from the chili dogs blended in a blizzard, or one of the frozen yogurt pucks that went into the smoothies. As a Dairy Queen employee, I can say “I’m sorry, but that isn’t an ingredient we’re able to use in a blizzard.” As a Starbucks employee if someone orders say a frappuccino with a pastry blended in, we’re supposed to by all standards *not* blend anything that isn’t specifically under “beverage ingredients” in the POS. If you have to ring it up as an item separate from the drink, it should not go in a beverage. However, instead of following *it’s own standards* Starbucks will tell you “make the moment right!” and it causes all kinds of wonky issues all over the place (in the process and also every time we get *the other Starbucks did it for me* 😤).

I think customers in general have gotten far too used to being able to customize every little thing. Which, cool as that is, companies have not caught up and been flexible in their policies and how they deal with the complications that come with it.

Yeah, it’s basically still like that. We say we can add blizzard ingredients to one blizzard. Maybe a few times a week I’ll hear a customer ask for a cone with sprinkles dipped in chocolate cone coating or a cone with heath bars on it. We’re able to say we can’t do that because it’s cross contamination but they can order that stuff on the side.

I applied for Starbucks last summer(reason why I’m even subscribed here), didn’t get the job as I decided to work an ice cream truck instead. What job would you say was more easy Dairy Queen or Starbucks? I’ve been at DQ for 3 months and the warmer weather is creating for a crazy fast paced work environment which I’m still pretty not use too/ liking. Though, I’m not sure how slow pace a Starbucks would be.

Starbucks also picks up in the summer. I was at a pretty busy Orange Julius DQ with a drive thru, and it was mostly a fun job. I was just out of high school at the time so it wasn’t super serious for me at the time. It definitely got very busy, and it could get stressful when we were short staffed, but it was tolerable. Starbucks isn’t much more work physically per se, but there’s a lot of pressure to go above and beyond normal professional customer service. They very much drive home the “get to know your customers on a personal level” which is fine with some customers, but not every customer wants that and higher ups will push you to force the “connection” anyway. It really depends on the store, some are very chill and are really nice places to work, others are toxic as hell. There’s great benefits, but I would definitely scope out a few stores in your area (even hit the same store at least 2-3 times at different times of day) and maybe even talk to some partners about the store environment before applying. If ever the people on the floor look miserable every time you’re there, abort mission.
