Just applied - pay rates? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Low_Ad_260
I’m sorry if a post like this has been made before, I’m just a bit confused on what exactly the pay will be.
I know everyone will get bumped to $15/hour minimum in august. Does that mean new hires start at $15 right now, or new hires start at $12 and then will get bumped? Also, is there a wage cap right now? I make $15 where I currently am (Trader Joe’s) so do you think I could negotiate for $17-18 right now or is that way too high for baristas? Would I have to apply to be a manager/shift lead/whatever it’s called at Starbucks to make that much money?

If you’re imagining a scenario where you, as a wage earning employee, can negotiate your pay, you are looking into the wrong company for work

You'll start at whatever the current starting rate is where you live (if that's $12 where you are, that's what you'll get) and then it will be raised to a minimum of $15 in August.

There isn't really such thing as negotiating your wage at Starbucks. There are starting wages for each position and everyone gets raises periodically together. They aren't going to pay you more as a new barista hire than a tenured barista who has worked for yearly raises or a shift supervisor/other higher position.

Without prior barista experience I doubt you’ll be bumped higher than tenured partners, Just a guess. But you will start at your current market rate, and then be moved up to the new start rate when everyone else will be

yeah starbucks don’t be caring that much. they don’t negotiate pay, especially to new partners without experience. they won’t pay you more than their tenured employees and even if you found a store manager that wanted to they literally don’t have the ability to do that.

frrr it sucks being a year long partner getting the same pay as a green bean but it is what it is

Also the raise to 15 dollar or 3% if the region already has rates a over 15 dollars I believe is only for partners hired prior to a date that’s already passed. I might have read that update wrong though.

you’ll get base pay. 12. you cannot negotiate your pay here. for reference, shift supervisors, which you need to work 6months+ for and get promoted to, get around 15.
