I joined this sub as a fan of Starbucks. I was expecting to see what being a barista was like, the behind the scenes fun, cool drinks, new swag, etc.
I realized pretty quickly what baristas go through just trying to serve coffee to the masses. The amount of fuckery you all have to put up with is astounding! Customers seem more worried about the status of following the next tik tok/insta drink trend and so much less about the fact that what they are ordering is an abomination of flavors that baristas are being forced to make. Add to that how the tipping on mobile app got moved and is harder to find/do and holy crap!
On one of my recent orders, a caramel frappe, there was no caramel crunch topping. The barista apologized when I pulled up to the window. I joked about that being a massive 'first world problem' and the look of relief made me genuinely sad and angry for you all.
I am floored at the way people have zero coping skills and think it is ok to berate, harrass and abuse you over coffee! It is not ok.

Thank you. So many people either forget what it's like to work customer service, or have never had to do it.
I've had customer service jobs before this and Starbucks is a whole new beast. Things just keep getting more complicated.

The a customer service treadmill that someone keeps throwing Lego on!

There are certainly crazy customers out there, I'm sure every store has at least a few. But I think the percentage of your customer base is very location based. The vast majority of the customers I get want rather simple lattes or americanos or pikes, with a healthy dose of cold foam loving college students. We have a handful of pretty picky people, but they're fine if you learn how they like their drink. I've worked at this location for almost a year and just yesterday did I get my first 15+ mod frap. I like my job and my customers... but I know I'm a lucky one.
My point is tho, don't go into it with the mindset that the customers are going to suck, and try not to let the bad ones make you forget the good ones. Burnout will happen slower this way

I work at a licensed store ( a bux inside a Safeway) and we are not connected to the mobile app, which means we only get cash tips. Our entire booth to split between 5 people typically gets 30 dollars a day in tips. Ends up being 35-40 bucks a week for me.
Traditional_Earth5256 points1y ago
😭I make like 40$ in tips a week rip
EliMinivan5 points1y ago

EliMinivan1 points1y ago
Where you at? My stores pinpad will ask for donations but not for tips lol
Poptart09111 points1y ago
We're not even allowed to accept tips at Target 😑

Same here and inside a safeway as well. When customer tip big and say "this is for you" I hate having to smile and let them, knowing damn well that big tip gets slip between the 6 of us baristas and I really only get 2 bucks from it or something.

Man I work at a licensed store and we’re not allowed to even get tips because we’re licensed and store employees rather than Starbucks employees :’)
