I am also a trans person and I get my health insurance through starbucks. My hrt costs about $8 for a month supply. That being said, I did go with the silver level because I figured I would be able to hit the co-pay amount between regular appointments and my prescriptions. I was also able to add on basic dental and vision insurance for a dollar each a month (so $2 on top of the health insurance for covered eye exams and dental cleaning).
I think the co-pay amount is important to consider because once you hit the maximum amount, the insurance will cover the rest of your medical costs for the remainder of the year.

Anytime you can get insurance, go for it. I just saved $188 on an eye appointment for $54 of paying for insurance. I also don’t know what may happen in the future.
Best to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
