Is my boss allowed to refuse bathroom breaks for the rest of my shift?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by pompous-pomeranian
Today during my almost six-hour shift I took two three-minute bathroom breaks and one eight-minute break because my stomach was feeling upset distributed evenly throughout the workday. After my last break (the eight-minute break) my shift supervisor asked about it and I mentioned my stomach was feeling upset. I rarely take breaks of this length (maybe once every month or so). He then said that the store manager (who was on the floor) instructed him to tell me I'm not allowed any bathroom breaks for the last hour of my shift. I wasn't planning to take one however this surprised me.

And corporate pretends to act baffled as to why we’d possibly want to unionize.

I would tell your SM that denying bathroom breaks is illegal. Google "can your boss deny you bathroom breaks". OSHA should be the first or one of the first yo pop up. I'd even print it out and show it to the SM.

They absolutely are not allowed to deny you access to the bathroom. If you are running to the restroom because you are vomiting or having diarrhea, you should have been sent home.

Piss everywhere behind the counter then. Goddamn, its an upset stomach that a few extra minutes wont kill. Smh what is it with junior managers and power trips.

Simple put it's illegal. Let your boss try to write you up

No because ur boss won’t clean up if u can’t hold your bodily fluids.

I’ll never understand why some people have power trips over something like using the restroom. My partners and I routinely ask each other to cover a position so we can run to the bathroom quickly, including my SM lol. It’s literally a habit of “regularity;” you can’t stop someone from going. That’s elementary school teacher logic.
