cs help? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by PaleontologistLoud37
i've been a partner since october but i've only worked weekends due to school. when i started i worked a lot of mornings where i wasn't fast enough on other positions, but ESPECIALLY cs and would just get put on dt.

now i can do pretty much everything else decently except cs. my store is usually just so busy that they aren't often able to put someone on cs who needs a lot of help. my issue is when i'm on cs, i don't know exactly everything that i need to do. i understand refilling syrups/lids/etc, ice, refreshers/vsc and fridges, but everything other than that confuses me.
like how do i know when to do whips? how few whips is too few? how many refresher backups should we have? and how, for the love of the siren, do i make iced tea?

and where can i get the answers to this stuff on say, the ipad?

i'm more than a little embarrassed to write this but i'm too scared to ask coworkers/ssv in person because most of them are seasoned baristas.

Never be afraid to asks questions
Just follow the cycle.
Make coffee. set timer,
Check lobby,
Do any necessary stocking.
Do a task( ie changes trashes, make some whips ect)
Repeat.
Cycles are between 10-30 mins depending on day parts. Don’t be afraid to ask your bars what they need the most when doing the cycle.

What I usually do are what my store calls “cycle tasks”: brew coffee (based on timer), refill espresso beans, and refill ice bins. Cycles in the morning are typically 10 minutes for each time the coffee timer to brew coffee goes off. I try to do the coffee first and fill the beans and bins in between during my first couple of cycles.
I also try to communicate with bar/have a headset on to see if they need anything immediately.

I think a lot of this depends on your store.

Typically we’ll have as many backups made as we have free pitchers, and we’ll make as many whips as we have free whip containers. From my experience, a lot of knowing when things are too low will just come from doing the position/having your bar tell you when they need more.

Iced tea is made by adding a tea bag, steeping it in 1L of hot water for 5 minutes, then adding 1 venti scoop of ice and filling the rest of the pitcher with cold water to the 2L line.

I honestly don’t know where to find anything on the iPad because I don’t really use it except for batch guidance but I hope the rest was useful. :)
