Cup fund debate (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Willing_Adeptness_40
I know this might sound strange but I’m having a huge internal conflict about applying for the cup fund grant.

I’m 19 years old and living on my own with my boyfriend. We found out in January that i was pregnant. I’m currently 6 months along and money has been super tight. He was recently let go from his job and I’m only able to work 30 hours a week due to health issues. We were already living paycheque to paycheque prior to this and with the cost of rent and other living expenses we wont be able to keep our apartment for longer than a couple months. We both have no family support and no where else to turn.

I don’t know if this is enough of a justifiable reason to apply for the cup fund or not and i guess I’m just grasping at straws trying to figure out what to do. If anyone has any insight it’d be greatly appreciated…

I think that this is a perfectly legitimate reason to apply for the cup fund! I would go for it.

So other things for you to look into are WIC, get on the list for housing, and you should also qualify for snap benifits. For most states you can apply on line and use the emergency status of your boyfriends unemployment to hopefully get you started faster.

I’m in Canada does that still apply here?

No, these are social services in the United States that will help pregnant women and have nothing to do with Starbucks.

You have to show them proof , like your water or power will be turned off or eviction notices. And 1000$ is the max they give and you can only apply once every 3 years.

You may have to prove you're behind, but it won't hurt to try. Good luck and congratulations.

I tried applying for the cup fund to cover rent that I knew I was unable to pay on time and they wanted proof of being evicted. With utilities, they want proof of a cutoff notice.
The one time I did apply and get the cup fund was right after my father died and I had to be off work for almost a month to take care of his estate. I had to send them a death certificate.
They are really stingy with the money that we as partners give to the fund and I feel like it should be a little more inclusive.
Good luck, they may find your situation to be eligible under the circumstances that you are an expectant mother.
