Hi there! I’m an SSV and last night I had a problem with our delivery drivers. For context, we’ve had issues with these two specifically but last night was awful. I’ve been under the impression that, if the truck gets to your store within 30 minutes to close, the drivers need to put the frozen away. Well, last night, we closed at 7 and the truck got to my store at 6:15. However, the drivers didn’t come in until 6:27 (I was watching the clock because I know that they always try to pull shady stuff). Now, here’s where my issue began. They didn’t bring the frozen palettes in until 6:37. I caught one of them and let him know (politely) that we closed at 7 and I would need them to put the frozen away. He agreed. However, about a minute later, the second driver comes up to me and tells me that it was my responsibility to put the frozen away because they got there at 6:15, which was true. I, firmly but respectfully, told him that they weren’t physically in my store until 6:27 and that the frozen palettes came in even later than that. He starts arguing with me that he had brought in the frozen palettes before he brought the milk in, which was a lie because I watched him bringing them in AFTER the milk was brought in. After some more back and forth he finally agrees to put the frozen away and I thank him and tell him I really appreciate it. They leave shortly afterwards and I go into the back to make sure everything was put away. A whole palette taller than I am was sitting back there, left out. I open the delivery freezer to find that boxes are thrown in there haphazardly, most backwards, and lacking any sort of organization at all, but with room to fit the second palette (had it been organized properly and not with a bunch of upside down, diagonal boxes everywhere). So my questions are: was I in the wrong? And, if not, is there a way to report delivery drivers? This isn’t the first time something similar has happened but it is the first time that they’ve been completely disrespectful about it. Thanks for any insight! Tl:dr: delivery drivers wouldn’t put frozen away despite bringing it in less than 30 minutes to close and argued with me about it. Cue malicious compliance on their part. Can I report them? Was I in the wrong?

Oh yeah, they do this at my store too. They’ve come less than 30 minutes before closing and left us with stuff, as well as coming under 20 minutes after opening with the frozen food, and left us to deal with it. When they come after close when no one is there, they’ve also horribly stacked stuff in the freezer to where certain boxes end up smushed completely. They will also put boxes of chemicals with bleach over top of boxes containing food and syrups. There’s been multiple occasions where they’ve left frozen boxes outside of the freezer overnight, and made it so that we had a ton of pastries expire two days later.
Not to mention……I’ve noticed some of our sandwiches will have very puffy bags, which is a sign of being out of temp too long, but since it’s in temp when I arrive in the AM and also doesn’t visually have any issues, I don’t have any way to prove it. So, I’m not surprised to hear others have the same issue. In all honesty, I don’t even try to argue with them as they’ll just make a point to do exactly what you’ve described, and put stuff away terribly. I don’t think they’re paid enough to care, so unfortunately it is what it is.

They're paid a lot more than we're paid

One was bragging about how he clears 100k as a driver…

You were not in the wrong, but should have taken pictures of the freezer and the boxes left out. Afterwards forwarded the pictures and what you wrote here to your sm and dm

I think 30 min cutoff is determined by when they arrived or when they physically entered the store not when the frozen palette enters the building (I can’t remember the specifics but I actually had a similar situation when I was a shift and the driver showed me the policy). Double check the fine print. But yeah they were being jerks about it, but I would double check the official policy in writing

This happened at my store for a while, but when we got a new SM she got sick of it real quick. She called everyone from the District Manager to the delivery company and eventually got them to only come after close and put the stuff up themselves. My best advice is to try to get your SM to help you out

So theres a way to report the delivery drivers. Especially if multiple stores report them to your DM, then they will take action with it.
HOWEVER THIS ISNT ALWAYS A GOOD THING. We just reported ours for being god awful, and they were “talked to”? (Idk what happened, but long story short they ended up quitting). We got new delivery drivers, and they are even worse than the last ones! THEY HAVE BROKEN WINDOWS, DOORS, REFRIGERATORS, CHAIRS, they even broke our pastry cart, god knows how!
Im just telling you as a warning. Yes, report it, but it wont always be a positive outcome

At least when I was at Starbucks (2ish years ago) as a store manager I called LSR when I had issues with delivery drivers. I think I got the number from IMS. I had issues with delivery drivers wanting to take boxes in thru the back door and became hostile with me when I told them they couldn't prop open the door.
The issues got fixed real quick.

This happens every pastry delivery at my store. We’ve had multiple ssv’s talk to the guy who brings them. He comes right at close around 8:45-9:15. We tell him he needs to put them up and he just leaves. He always sits in the parking lot for like 30 minutes before hand. He pisses me off so much. We’ll be ready to leave and then he comes and we have to clean up his mess. There’s another guy who comes on the days I don’t work and he puts them up. So it’s just this one guy who doesn’t. So freaking annoying

They did this to us the other day, it's never happened to me before and the driver was also really rude about us being in his way? While we were just doing our job.

you can make an incident report and that works i promise

I have a crazy story about our delivery drivers...well one of em. I'm not a closer so I don't know how they have been at my store with the whole delivering food system. But one time one of my shift supervisors were closing but I forget if he said that the store was closed to customers at that time or not but anyway he said that the delivery driver guy that was in the store was bringing stuff in and my shift supervisor said that he had left his jacket and his wallet on one of the tables as he wanted to make sure he had everything of his all in one place. And he was right across from it behind the pastry case trying to look at the pastry cart and making sure everything was good and then he stood back up and then at some point or another the delivery guy left and when he was going to go home he realized his wallet wasn't where it was. So our DM got involved and they investigated with police as well. Cameras were checked and it showed that the delivery guy literally grabbed my shift supervisors wallet. So they contacted the company and told them about the situation and I guess the company had ended up talking to their employee and ended up getting the wallet from him but my shift supervisor had to drive all the way down to the next state over just to be able to get his wallet from the delivery company. It's pretty pathetic that the driver would be Brazen enough to just steal somebody's wallet who was literally right there in the store bent down behind the pastry case looking at the pastry cart and fixing it. Apparently the excuse that the delivery driver used to his employer was that he didn't know whose wallet it was and he was going to turn it in. Why would he need to take it with him all the way to the next state over and turn it in if it was in our Starbucks in our state? I don't know what ended up happening but if I'm not mistaken I think they ended up firing the delivery driver

To report issues you need to contact LSR. But why are you responsible to put frozen stuff away at all? Even when our delivery comes well before close the delivery driver puts it away. For me that’s been true in 2 different states. We just need to make sure that the fridge and freezer is delivery ready. Do you happen to be a licensed store or do some areas require the shift/barista to put the frozen stuff away?

I’m not licensed and I’m in Ohio. We have two guys who are absolutely lovely; super polite and will put the entire order away but these two specifically are downright lazy and rude.
2319Mine1 points1y ago
Report them to lsr every time you have an issue with them. We have a thing under our security pad that has our route and stop number. I’m on LOA and I can’t remember where the number for lsr is usually listed but your sm/ DM should know. I would also find out if you can if it really is standard for you to put frozen stuff away. I’m in Colorado and I started in California and I have never been in charge of doing that unless I specifically tell them I will because I hadn’t completed the pull yet.

My area (PA) requires us to put frozen food away unless they arrive within half an hour to close.
